    You can certainly host your own website, the question would be why? Hosting services are so cheap today; it's not worth the hassle.

    But to answer your questions;

    1. You can host your own website. You would need to purchase 5 - 10 servers, and install the IIS web server roll, if you will have multimedia content, I would also suggest install the media streaming roll.

    You will also need to have more than one server for redundancy purposes.

    2. It's hard to answer this question, because this would depend on how much traffic will hit your website, so I would need to know more about the website, and traffic. A starting point would be an OC3 circuit.

    3. This is simple although not needed, just contact two ISP providers, and order internet services; this would have to be a business class service provider.

    4. I'm not sure I understand this question, but I'll give it a try I think your saying your content that will be on your website is worth Millions of dollars? If so, this really doesn't matter whether or not you host in house, or outsource your hosting services as security will needed to be implemented regardless. Believe it or not huge companies use hosting services such as Netflix, Facebook, Hulu, etc. So it's extremely uncommon for someone to want to host their own website, you will need to worry about administering the websites, making updates, etc when the company will do this for you included in your hosting fees. Hope this helps.

    Cajunspike is proper on the money. I love Uniform Server (I raise an set up on a flash drive), however XAMPP will work additionally. On some routers, you have got to give the computer an IP tackle that is entirely external the DHCP variety - good-designed routers won't forward ports to an address that *will also be* leased, although it isn't. (They will not whinge, they just won't forward the port.) also, if your modem does handle translation, you can have to emasculate your router (flip it into a swap) and forward the port on your modem - forwarding by means of two tackle translations seldom works. (You disable the DHCP server within the router and fix the modem to probably the most *LAN* ports of the router.)
