There's various things wrong with my computer - please help!?

First of all, I can't open windows defender, firewall, or any of the security things.

The firewall is not on; if I try and open it to turn it on, it says "Windows firewall was unable to make the requested updates", or if I try to check firewall settings, it says that because of an unidentified problem, I can't see it. I can't get windows defender to do a scan, as when I click on that it says "Application failed to initialize: 0x80070006. The handle is invalid". Plus the security simply "could not be started".

Also, a little thingy (that's such a technical term) KEEPS popping up saying "host process for windows services stopped working and was closed". Every time I close that thingy, it pops right back up again and it's kinda driving me nuts... I don't even know what host process for windows services is.

And finally, I un-installed abobe flash player 11 the other day because when I installed the update for it all the problems started, so I thought it might be connected. On hindsight, I think it was just a coincidence. Anyway, so now I am trying to reinstall it but it won't let me, saying it's already on the machine... which it's not.

Using Malwarebytes anti-malware programme I've done a full scan, 2 in fact, and it did pick some things up; it got rid of them but it hasn't changed anything.

Apart from these things, my computer is running fine; it's not slow at all, it's not randomly closing programmes or coming up with virusy-looking things. So it's not actually too much of a problem but I don't like the fact that my windows defender and firewall is down...

Any help would be much appriciated; thank you! :)

Do you have your System Restore turned on?

If so you can access that and try restoring the system to a point before the dreaded adobe update. I've had adobe screw up my system before, and cause various other installation hassles.

Whether or not this is really the issue, I think the system restore is your best move. Check and see if your Automatic Updates are turned on. If not, try doing so and see if that helps at all. Long shot, but easy enough to try.

There are so many odd issues going on, it's one of those things I'd have to be sting there to really see what's going on.

If you want to try posting your question on a genuine computer site, you can try www.anandtech.com. I have gone there on occasion when I couldn't fix my computer myself. It is strictly a hardcore computer site. It has a Forums section where you can ask questions. You have to join, but it's free, and you're more likely to get answers to these system-related questions you asked here.

It's possible the adobe installation conflicted with some system processes, or maybe the download was corrupt......who knows. If your system suddenly went haywire after the install of adobe, then I would suspect that. There could be driver conflicts, or who-knows-what going on behind the scenes.

I would recommend you download and use CCleaner. It's by piriform. It's free and safe. It MAY clean up some things that are remaining on your system that will not go away on their own....especially if the adobe install went bad. Use it with care as with all things that have to do with your system. It has many features including a registry cleaner and a way to uninstall programs. So look it over, use it with care, and good luck.

Beyond this I don't have anything else to suggest, and I'm going to cop-out and give yo the canned response to 're-install your operating system'. That's always a possibility, but why do it if you can try some relatively simple things first that may take care of the issue.

Yeah, sorry it's not a lot of help. But I would suggest going to a computer repair shop or maybe if its a new-ish computer, go to where you bought it from. Take them a list of things that are wrong with it and ask for their suggestions/advice.

Or you could see if there is a local computer repair man that would come to your house to help fix it. It could be cheaper than taking it somewhere like Curry's/PC World etc etc.

Also, do you have any computer wiz-kids in your friendship groups? Or anyone you went to school with that you can get in contact with? They may help you out for a drink or something :)

Flash Player can be a problem to completely remove. This link provides a free Flash Player uninstaller. I have used it, and can vouch for it. I keep it installed for future use, but every now and again they update to a newer version:

    http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Uninstallers/Ma...

I always install Flash Player from here. Ignore the Download arrow, and instead click on the bold heading. This will take you to a screen that offers a download of the latest version, or older versions:

    http://www.filehippo.com/search?q=flash+player

As for your error message, these links may prove useful:

    Hope this helps.
