Is the Eclipse a reliable car?
I'm buying my first car soon, and right now I'm leaning towards a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS. 130k, automatic for $2,000.
The price is comparable to others in my area.
My question is, is 130k high mileage for the model?
I'm well aware that cars can last hundreds of thousands of miles (my dad had a station wagon that went 350k before the engine finally died).
I'm just a little curious as to what I should be looking out for, any repairs that might need to be done in the near future.
This car will only need to last me a year or 2 tops. Planning on using it as a trade for a Cobalt next summer, but I don't want some piece that will need 5k in repairs in the next 20,000 miles.

Just take care of it once you buy it and do all the maintenance on it to keep it running good. And ask the person you're getting it from what the history of car is. If the previous owner replaced some stuff and other questions that will help you decide whether its reliable or not.

i have one 2001 EClipse GS and it is a reliable car i bought at 91000 miles and it is very reliable but luckly the guy i bought it from did all the maintinance on it. take a look at the past owner if the interior is dirty and the outside then he probably didnt take care of the car. Iook for timing belts, clutch, water pump, radiators. Check the interior watch out for any smells or weird noises. if theres black smoke or blue smoke coming out then it is a gas sucker. Take a test drive that is really important! check for weird nosies or smells. check the radio , AC ,heat and all the good stuff. .
Tell him to give you some maintienace information so you can see if he actually took car of his car. tons of eclipse onwers only care about the bodykits and stuff like that but not the engine. My eclipse is a very reliable car and they all are reliable just the owners who neglect them give them a bad name. That goes the same for all cars too....good luck and check everything
