So did anyone else hear these so called boos from the Eagles Crowd as Hawkins went off?
Scott says the crowd abused Hawkins and the medical staff but the game I watched the crowd actually applauded him as he went off. I mean seriously I have a lot of respect for him and the Geelong Footy club but to make up bs to make the Eagles look bad is wrong. I know the crowd booed during the game but it was all at bad calls from the umpire, what do they expect from a home crowd in a game as important as that one.
Im sorry Quandary but i have seen crowds just as bad if not worse from all sides especially i have noticed from Collingwood and Essendon. I agree the select few in the crowd who were abusing Geelong players are a disgrace but the fact of the matter is there are supporters from every side who will do that. My Girlfriend was at the game with her friend near where Hawkins was carried off. She said the crowd went almost completely silent while he was on the ground and a large number of people even gave him a standing ovation out of repect as he came off. It was a massive game for both sides and the Crowd knew that, if you saw a number of the calls made last night (Against both sides) im sure even the Geelong crowd would have got frustrated if the roles were reversed and the game was in Geelong.. As i mentioned i have a lot of respect for the Geelong Footy club and I wish Hawkins all the best and a speedy recovery, no-one likes to see a player of his Caliber go down.

I heard them applaud him as he went off aswell, i heard the umpires cop it a fair bit (but those decisions were.... unorthodox)
ofcourse the boo at a goal happens at all home games for all teams (even the cattery q, so don't think the cats are flawless on that). after that it settled down to a hushed murmer, then they applauded as he went off.
they booed the damn goal, we all know that when hawkins when down the goal was kicked right????

Karl Langdon, in his column in the Sunday Times today, said that umpiring performance was the worst he had seen in 25 years as a player & a commentator.
Dean Kemp disagreed with Scott & said that the Eagles fans were the best in the country. Now who could disagree with such unbiased comments?
I wish Scott & ALL Victorians would stop sooking when they go to WA & get beaten. Victorian fans have been, & always will be, the most abusive in the country. They just don't like it when they are on the receiving end.

I think Matty, what you'll find is that a majority of Weagles fans applauded when they realised what a pathetic bunch of losers were doing. They were abusing Hawkins and laughing and abusing the medical staff. Open your eyes.
YES - we all saw the disgusting behaviour of fans. What do we expect? I certainly would expect what we give the Eagles when they come here - polite applause when they come on. Applause when an injured player leaves the field. We all saw people hanging over the fence abusing umpires and Geelong players - it was a disgrace and if my team's supporters behaved like that I would join another club. We all get one or two in every club but that was a feral pack of animals. Filth!
That was a minority but an unacceptably large one.
Passion is fine but booing the entire game? Just pathetic and disgusting. Booing an unconscious player? Pathetic. Worse that the Dockers!

What I clapped Hawkins when he went off but it wasn't for a bad reason. And every call the umpire made I booed it because it was rubbish and every time the Geelong players kicked it out I would shout out deliberate and the eagles wouldn't get a free kick! Isn't it obvious people that the umpires are set out to get the eagles!
edit I was there matty where I was seated no supporters booed Hawkins in fact behind me were a pair of Geelong players quandary and they were booing us as well especially with the amount of alcohol they had consumed as well people from all clubs boo people get over it. Yes the umpiring in a way was even but the umpires with nic nats goal that was insane

Have to agree with Quandary here. I watched the game and did hear the crowd booed and jeered. Like Quandary mentioned...they only applauded when Hawkins was stretched off.
Yes, you're right about the crowd booing at the umps during the game, but they also did it when Hawkins went down.
That's my intake on it, because I seen it and heard it on the tele.

People did applause but I did hear the boos and thought it was quite disgusting, even when I'm at the game and don't like the opposition I never boo an injured player of the field, it is never good to see someone get stretchered off regardless of who they are.

Cain mentioned he wasn't even tipping his cap to anybody, simply adjusting it. People are manner too competent to jump to nasty conclusions. Wright and Cain had been palling round earlier than the sport in these days, so if there is no rough emotions among them, Mets lovers will have to most commonly take the trace.

I didn't see it but listening to the talk back this morning on 880 other people heard it as well. The large portion of Eagles fans are decent and sensible but there seems to be this increasing number of boofheads that give the rest of the Eagles fans a bad name. They are a disgrace.

Not when I saw it live, then I watched a replay at lunch yesterday and still didn't.
I think it's just another case in the ongoing attempt by Victorians trying to find anything to bash us with this year. Fist "ducking", then "throwing", and now "unruly mobs".
