Forget the assumption about the devil - the Illuminati was formed in 1776 and basically wrapped-up in 1785.

The organization was more or less based on the ideal's of the Freemasons as we know it today. However, at the time it had run into a lot of trouble with government and the church and was forced to finish up. The same sort of rot had a powerful following which came from right wing extremists and in particular the 'Thule Society' in Bavaria after World War One that claimed the Jews to be responsible for Germany's loss of the war amongst another stack of lies on biblical proportion making it look as if the Jews were running the world's affairs from the USA and controlling the money markets bla, bla, bla.......... and the more you listen to this clap-trap the more you have a tendency to believe it.

It WAS considered very "devilish" when it was founded in 1776. There were two branches, each dedicated to the "illumination" or "enlightenment" of the oppressed common people. One branch was in Bavaria and the other was in America. The Bavarian Illuminati were tragically wiped out by the aristos and monarchs in Europe, who they defied. In 1776, mopst people were subjected to whippings by aristocrats--White people, which has been utterly forgotten in the face of Black slavery--so they chose a flag of white with red stripes like poor men's backs. The American Illuminati used the same great seal as the late Bavarian brethren: the all seeing eye or watchit flying over a truncated pyramid or trapezoid. The monacrhs consdiered them the "devil" and evil for they defied the "natyural "order of rule by kings who had the divine right, and the church also condemned them as 'devilish' also. The fifty-six American Illuminati (singular is illuminatus) in 1776 signed a declaration of independence from King George III who condemned them to a traitor's death--by ddisembowellment while still alive then being hanged--but, quite amazingly, they survived and started a country in which every person would be born free and a citizen and an Illuminatus form BIRTH. Two hundred years later, the descendants of these radical, free-thinking revolutionists had NO IDEA what it had been about, and did not even KNOW that they were the Illuminati anymore. Moreover, they did NOT remember that their ancestors had actually had such a BAD time under aristocrats and kings, that they actually were bedazzled b their crowns and jewells and admired them, and wanted to go back to that. The Great Seal of the Illuminati was actually stil on their currency but they had NO idea what it meant or that they were born members of it. They took the Freedom into which they were born for granted after only two centuries, and were ripe for re-enslavement to the concept of being inferiour to titled aristos and monarchs. Perhaps then the kings were correct;that, the common people were really unworthy of being free, and the divine right of kings was more memorable than the Illuminati...since its heirs did not even recall who they were.

The actual Illuminati, known as the Bavarian Illuminati, was founded in 1776 by Adam Weishaupt, a secret society that was the offshoot of the Enlightenment and was apparently modeled on the Freemasons. However the Secular Edict of 1785 appeared to kill it.

The original Illuminati was simply an organisation which sought a chance to think for themselves without constraint. Conspiracy theories, however, have turned the Illuminati into something it was not. After its demise, literature claimed it was still alive and had gone deep underground and claimed they were behind the French Revolution. Perhaps one of Dan Brown's predecessors.

These claims have been made at various stages throughout the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries. All of them argue that the Bavarian Illuminati have survived to this day and are a powerful shadow group, controlling and manipulating world events. They claim many important figures as members, including US presidents.

Many groups are out there giving the idea the Bavarian Illuminati are still alive. These groups often use the word 'Illuminati' in their titles or borrow from their rituals. They are copycats and often bear very little resemblance to the Bavarians.

The Bavaian Illuminati died. The New World Order Illuminati lives on in the impressive imagination of conspiracy theorists. Typing Illuminati into Answers brings up 19815 results. On one website alone. If they were really a true secret society hell bent on world domination, I think they'd be a pretty crappy one.

Doesn't exist made up by Dan Brown for his novel (in other words a work of fiction, made up) The Da Vinci Code.

There was a set of nutters in Bavaria in the 18th Century who had this organisation for about 10 years, Dan Brown took the name and used it for his baddies in his book.

    No such people.
