Why are photos not loading on websites?

I have a fairly new Mac with the most current version of Adobe and about 50% of photos will not load. On FaceBook, among other websites, instead of showing a photo it shows a white box with a small blue box in the center with a question mark. Even my avatar on Yahoo answers looks like this.

Any ideas on what to do?

    what kind of browser do you use?

    if you're using safari:

    go to Safari > Preferences > Appearance

    and make sure "Display images when the page opens" is checked

    and have you tried another browser to see if they load? If they don't load with Firefox, operamini or another browser, it's most likely your firewall settings
