  • Where can I get proof my mobilization way back in 2005 was under Title 10?

I am trying to use my VA benefits to purchase a home and the VA is requiring me to prove my reserve activation in 2005 was under Title 10. Due to a flood at my home in 2006 I do not have my original orders. All I have now is the member 2 and member 7 versions of my DD-214. Apparently those have all of the required info except stating I served under Title 10. I thought all Reservists that serve in Iraq and Afghanistan were in a Title 10 classification. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I can obtain either a set of my original orders or a DD-214 member 4? I already had the personnel dept send me a copy of my military records and neither of those are on the disc.

  • Capital Gains Tax Confusion?

I am a little confused about when the Capital Gains tax kicks in.

Let's say hypothetically in 2005 I purchased a painting for $800. In 2011 I lost my job and am still unemployed. I discovered today my $800 paining is now valued at $1,000,000. Since I am unemployed is my Capital Gain tax owed $0 if I sell the painting, or is the $400,000 income threshold including the profit made from the sale? How is the tax effected if I take the profit and purchase a primary residence with it?

  • Why will a new MacBook Pro not open .docx?

I recently purchased this computer for my daughter to use in college but she cannot open .docx files. She has no problems with .pdf files. Do I need to purchase and download Microsoft Office:Mac 2011 to get her up and running? I know very little about computers, even less about Mac's.

    Thanks everyone

  • Why are photos not loading on websites?

I have a fairly new Mac with the most current version of Adobe and about 50% of photos will not load. On FaceBook, among other websites, instead of showing a photo it shows a white box with a small blue box in the center with a question mark. Even my avatar on Yahoo answers looks like this.

Any ideas on what to do?

    Thanks

  • PIctures not loading on websites?

I am sure this is an easy fix. I just switched to a Mac from a PC and I am trying to get used to it. I have noticed that often when I go to websites the pics will not load, it just shows a white box with a blue question mark in the center. A perfect example would be when I go to Facebook my friend's aviators show but none of the pics. Is there a setting I need to change?

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • What is the formula used?

I used to know what formula to use for a problem like this, but cannot remember anymore.

If Sam can do a job in 4 days that Lisa can do in 6 days and Tom can do in 2 days, how long would the job take if Sam, Lisa, and Tom worked together to complete it?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Need help making the leap from wired to wireless?

After several years of being wired I am ready to cut the cord. I am currently on a desktop w/DSL. I am going to purchase a laptop in the next few days and want the freedom of not being tied to one specific place in my apartment. I have no idea what to look for in a router. My blu-ray player is wifi ready, my son's x-box is also, I am thinking my Sony Bravia tv is, and my new laptop will be. There are so many choices, in many price ranges, that I do not know what to look for. I mostly do school (college) work on my computer. I am not a gamer nor do I download music.

How much slower will wireless be than my current DSL, and is being disconnected usually a problem?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Can anyone help me determine GPA range?

I am trying to find out if there is a way to determine the high and low GPA if I know the average of GPA allowed into a certain program.

Such as.... If 70 people are admitted into a program that requires a 2.75 out of 4.0, and the average GPA was 3.46. I tried and came up with the GPA's ranging from 4.0 down to 2.92 if everything is even. This just does not seem real. Anyone know if I had an error in my math?

  • How does Facebook generate money?

I have been wondering for some time how free websites generate money for its owner. I can understand if a person pays a fee to use the service, but if it is totally free how does it generate money for the owner?

  • monitor screen messing up?

About 4-5 times a week my monitor screen will mess up. It is hard to describe what comes up on the screen other than it is completely distorted. It is almost like a diagonal plaid pattern, and my computer locks up. I am not sure if it is a problem with the monitor or the computer. The monitor is an HP flat screen, if that makes a difference, approx 2 yrs old. The computer is less than a yr old. When it does this I have to hold the power button in to get it to shut down then after sitting for a couple of mins everything is fine until the next time.

It is very frustrating when this happens while I am doing something for school because all of my work is lost.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  • remove encryption for 64 bit systems?

I used DVD43 for a long time and loved the ease of use. I recently purchased a new computer and DVD43 will not work due to it being a 64 bit system. Is there anything comparable, that is free, that will work with my new computer?

If it matters, I now am using Windows 7.

    Thanks for any info.

  • Not loving Windows 7?

I just purchased a new computer yesterday with Windows 7. It is so different than what I am used to, Windows XP. First I had to enlarge my pages to 125% just to be able to read anything on them, I have a 17" flat screen monitor, and there is nothing wrong with my vision. Even at 125%, with text size set to larger I still struggle to read the text on many websites, such as Facebook. When I right click to bring up a pop-up screen, or I bring up a menu such as add/delete, the text is so tiny I have to move closer to the screen and squint to read it, again, there is nothing wrong with my eyesight.

If anybody has any suggestions I would be most appreciative.

  • Can somebody explain this to me?

For me to check out a library book, rent a dvd, pay for gas with a check. I must show a photo ID. If i am on my way home from work and come up on a police roadblock I must show a drivers license, proof of insurance and registration.

I don't understand why there is an argument against showing an ID to vote. I understand not everybody has a drivers license, but every state offers a state ID. Why is something as important as voting left up to the honor system?

  • What direction would people like to see the U.S. govt. go?

I am trying to figure out exactly what people want from the govt. What direction they would like to see it take.

The U.S. has been a world power since the end of WW1. No other country comes close to giving as much financial aid to countries, people in need, as we do. Our Constitution gives more freedoms than most other countries. Our Bill of Rights gives us more rights than most countries. Our taxes are much lower than the European Nations, and we get a lot for our taxes.

How should our country change? What would be the benefit? Also consider what the cost would be for any changes you suggest, financially and the possible loss of freedoms? Take into consideration if other nations have tried what you advocate, and the long-term outcome.

Please no silly or immature answers like a free house and free car for everybody.

  • How much will this affect my credit score?

My credit score was little over 700 18 months ago. I lost my job a year ago. I have made all my payments on time since losing my job, so there is no negative credit history. When I go back to work I will have less time at my future employer. How much will having little time on the job affect my credit score? I have always kept a low credit to income ratio, that is how I have been able to pay my bills while out of work.

  • Can a juvenile be tried in open court?

A little background... My 14 yr old son had a run in with an adult neighbor. We all went to court and the local municipal court judge, who is a lawyer by day and a judge by night, ordered both parties to stay away from each other. Us and the neighbor live in the same apartment complex. Opposite ends of the same building to be more precise. Neither the neighbor nor my son did abide by the judges order. Both were visiting friends that had apartments in the breezeway both parties were ordered to stay out of, my son and the neighbor did not talk to each other. The neighbor video taped my son entering and leaving his neighbors apartment, who shares his breezeway. When we went to court, as a follow up, the judge was shown the video tape and the he fined ME $400, gave ME a 90 day suspended jail sentence, and put ME on 24 months probation, because I could not control my son. I was not aware my son was even going into that breezeway.

We returned to court recently, another follow up, and the neighbor told the judge my son is still coming into his breezeway. The judge asked my son how he pleads and my son said not guilty. The judge set his trial date for the middle of October in the city court. The same court you go to for speeding, having no insurance, DUI etc.

My question is, can my son be tried in open court at the age of 15, he has had a birthday since all this started. I was under the impression a juvenile had to be tried in a closed courtroom. If he is tried in open court will it be considered a violation of his rights as a juvenile?

  • What do I need to look for in a Blu-ray player?

What features should I require in a Blu-ray player. This will be a relatively inexpensive player, preferably around $100, that I will only be using in my bedroom.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
