Can I Take My Retainer Out for School?
So i got my braces off 3 weeks ago and of course its summer so i dont care right now. i have a hawley metal retainer on top and one glued on the bottom behind my teeth. school starts in 3 1/2 weeks, so i will have been wearing the retainer religiously for a month and a half. i was wondering if i could take it out for the 7 hours of school a day and immediatley put it back on for the rest of the day, including weekends?

Yeah, I think that is fine. When I got my braces off, I'd wear the retainers religiously and then school started and I thought it was pretty embarrassing to wear my retainers to school. So I wouldn't wear them. I'd pop them in after I got home though. And as the days went by, eventually I only wore them at night and my teeth are still how they looked when I first got my braces off.

They told me i had to keep it in at all time for best, only when i'm eating, or brushing my teeth is my time to remove my retainer. I really hope i can start wearing it at night only, because it is really annoying when you have to eat a little, and have to take the retainer off. It also depends on what kind of retainer, and what your orthodontist told you, for each patient they can tell different things. I would follow what your orthodontist told you, then when you visit again just ask him. If your orthodontist says no, ask him if he can give you a different kind, some won't get ruined. It may cost more though. If you don't visit in a while, you can give the office a call, if you have the number and ask there. I would just recommend follow what he told you, then when you have a chance, you can ask.
