PS3 Hard Drive question?

My ps3 recently got the yellow light of death. I think I'm gonna be able to fix it, but if the worst case happens, and I need to get a new system, can I put my old hard drive in the new system and have it work. That is, not lose any data? Thanks in advance.

I am not going to lie to you, I am not 100% Sure, But if the old HDD has the Right OS on it, and it compatible with the current PS3 then it should work. But if not, then the system shouldn't turn on. But like i said not 100% lol. Wish you luck with your System.

No, it will format all the data on the HDD. You have to send it in with the HDD anyways so it doesn't matter, you're losing the data unless it's backed up.
