Harley Shifting Problem?

I have a 2002 HD 1200c and it seems whenever i ride for a while and the bike gets hot it is difficult to shift up from first to second gear. It mainly happens after riding on the highway for a while then once i take an exit to get off the highway to go to a more city like area it is difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd gear. All of the other gears from 2 and up shift fine. I also notice when i first get going when the bike is started up for the first time of the day, as i let the clutch out to get moving the bike jumps forward as thought it slams into gear. But once i get moving it's fine. Do I need a clutch adjustment? Anyone else have these problems?

If you mean than when cold, the clutch grabs sooner than when warm, then yes, a clutch adjustment is needed.

When the clutch is disengaged, a metal pushrod pushes against the pressure plate to move it away from the clutch plates.

As all metal does, it expands (in this case, lengthens) as it gets hotter.

This is why most manuals say to adjust it when cold.

Afterwards, be sure to adjust the cable.

    Check your primary chain tension.

If you haven't change the oil lately, I'd start there.
