Best Pacific Cost Hwy sites?

My boyfriend and I are taking a week long trip from LA area to Seattle, and want to drive PCH (mostly) all the way up. We'll be taking the 5 back, and would like the trip up only to last about 2-3 days. What are the best sites to see along the way? How long should each be spend, within reason? Thanks! Want to plan a decent itinerary.

Here is a suggested itinerary for LA to SF.

Head up to the Central Coast by car on US 101 past Santa Barbara. Go to San Simeon and spend the night. The next morning, tour Hearst Castle. After lunch, continue up the coast on CA 1 to Big Sur and the Monterey Peninsula. Stay the night and the next day visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, then ride along 17 mile drive in Carmel. From there, head to SF.

Hearst Castle is one of the places you must see before you die.

    Big Sur is spectacular

Monterey Bay Aquarium is where they filmed Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

John Steinbeck made Cannery Row famous

Check out the famous "Lone Cypress" on 17-mile drive

Hearst Castle usually needs reservations, gotten months in advance (but you can try).

You will be driving through the redwood forest, and somewhere along there is Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox.
