Can I give my dog a bath in the hose? or is that totally cruel?
I have a 2 year old black lab who absolutely HATES water! I feel awful when it's time to give her a bath and I don't do it often! I know many people say it doesn't need to be done often - but we take her to a local dog park and she sometimes gets a little smelly. I bought special wipes for dogs and I wipe her down after we get in, but I'd really like to give her a good wash before the warm weather is over. The last few times we bathed her, it was in our own shower.. my husband complained about all of her shedding hair and it did cause a problem with our drains (we don't have a bathtub, only a shower...and no stopper on the drain. I tried to put stuff over the drain but it just made a mess)..
Someone suggested a groomer but I feel like she would have an absolute heart attack if we did that to her. She is afraid of everything! We take her frequently to get her nails clipped and she gets so nervous that she pees on the floor every time... so I don't think she'd take well to a groomer.
It's about 90 degrees+ outside everyday, so it's not super cold.... would it be completely cruel of me to just tie her leash to the porch and wash her down real quick under the hose?

she's scared because she panics and then you let her go... so she then feels that there is something to fear.
bathing outside is fine, even in colder weather for breeds like labs, because she was bred to retrieve game out of lakes... do you think the lakes are room temp, nope. as long as she can come inside and dry off ....she will be fine what ever the weather, your fingers on the other had may freeze & fall off...

first, if you tie her to a leash just make sure thats so she doesnt run away. low pressure water REALLY close to her skin wont freak her out but if you shoot a high pressure hose at her while she is tied to a fence... yes, that would be cruel.
may i recommend going out and buying a hair stopper? i use them when I wash my dogs in the shower. i also give them cookies so they know they are being good and that getting a bath doesnt have to be all bad.
a hair catcher is just a metal, plastic, or rubber thing with tiny slots in it that allows the water to go down the drain but stops the hair... you might have to put the hair out of the way of the drain the water can't get through, but its not really a big pain. Dogs like to be comforted when they are afraid so if you can maybe take a shower with your dog (if that sounds too weird then don't do it hahaha) but dogs really dont like baths because they think its a punishment and they don't know why. so just be nice about it and try and avoid the hose unless you do the low pressure water.

Hi!
I have a dog who also isn't particularly that mad with water either. He's a Springer Spaniel, so you could imagine how mad he is! Anyway, after every walk we wash him down with the hose. At first he seemed to shiver a bit, but now he's fine! If I were you, I wouldn't wash the dog indoors, it's a lot of mess, etc. If you're worried about your dog being cold, then you could always buy a tub (Horse feeder) Put warm water in it, and wash your dog off in there, outside. Also, I wouldn't have expected my dog to have a good reaction towards groomers, but when I take him he comes back, absolutely fine, and they always say he was no trouble! Although, I only rarely take him to the groomers, it's not often.
Hope I helped!

No, I would not consider that cruel. If my dog was afraid of water and had a heart attack at the groomers and her fur stopped up the drains, I would not hesitate to just hose her down in the summer. Why not take her to a lake or river and slowly introduce her to large bodies of water?
You may also try looking online, they sell special tubs for outside use that are specifically for bathing dogs.

Go ahead. Remember dogs swim in lakes and love it.
A little hint. I use straight baking soda to wash my dog. Dampened piles of it on her back at first to cut the oil. Why? Because it is natural and it rinses off well.
It just feels kind of weird when you are working it all about her and into the fur. But the dog comes out very clean. And it won't sting her eyes like soap if some gets rinsed into them. Just try to keep it out anyhow.
It's also cheap, but that's not why I use it.
And let the sun warm up a full doggy tub of water first. That helps a lot!!!

Try it. She should like water. Maybe if you make a game of it like retrieving a ball out of a big tub of water she might like it? I mean that is what labrador retrievers are supposed to do. I wonder if something happened when she was younger. If you suds her up with lather and just a little water at first, then rinse with hose I would think it would be ok and at least she is in her own yard rather than at the groomers

it is not any longer cruel in any respect. I stay in Texas too, and if my canines are going to be outside for any prolonged era of time (more desirable than an hour or so), we hose them both down previously we go away. They like it, and it is totally sparkling that it feels very sturdy. one in each and every of our canines is a authentic water-lover and the different runs away when we get out the hose. in spite of the undeniable fact that we are tender with the guy who's afraid, and also you would possibly want to tell she feels better once she is dampened down. also it is purely more straightforward to furnish an truthfully bathtub outside truly than in a slippery bathtub bathtub. i imagine the canines experience extra take care of. the in undemanding words draw back is preserving them from in the present day drying themselves off through rolling contained in the airborne dirt and dirt and grass! Do be careful and attempt water temperature previously you truly spray the canines with the hose -- opposite to what your mom says, the water that has been sitting contained in the hose all day might want to be SCALDING warm if the hose has been mendacity out contained in the solar. enable it run for a minute until eventually it feels cool, and then moist down your canines.

It's a dog. Some people don't take their dogs showers because they're outside dogs. No, it's not cruel.
