MTG: Argentum Armor and targeting?

I equipped my Marsh Threader (Kor Scout) with Argentum Armor http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.asp...

and attacked my opponent who had Riders of Gavony http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.asp...

in play and he chose Kor as a creature type to have protection from. Now the Argentum Armor effect of destroying a target permanent kicks in- what exactly is doing the tartgeting? the equipment or the Marsh Threader? Can the riders be targeted?

Argentum Armor has the ability itself, it doesn't grant the ability to the creature. Therefore, it's Argentum Armor that does the targeting, so it can target something that has protection from the equipped creature (and, conversely, it can't target something that has protection from the Armor).

The armor adds the ability to whatever creature it is attached to so protection from the creature it's attached to does nothing.
