Would fish survive approx 18 miles journey?

I have completely lost faith in my local pet shop that I get my tropical fish from.

So I am thinking of travelling to the nearest city to where I live to get some fish (they will also have more variety) but I was wondering if the fish would survive in the bags that they supply them in?

Carlisle is around 18 miles from where I live, 20 mins on train, around 45 mins on bus or 30 mins in car it would depend if I could get a friend to give me a lift through but it could very well be that I'll be going on the bus.

Would the fish survive the journey?

    linsay,

Since we have only a puny, not a good pet shop in our town, we always travel long distances to the right kind of shops in other cities.

Our CNYAS aquarium club is in Syracuse, NY - it takes at least 1 1/2 hours to get their to our monthly meetings + the fish we purchase at the meets are fine in their plastic bags. Round trip 4 hours - sellers have bagged their fish hours before the meetings.

    Check out our Website.

I'm pretty sure they'd be okay, but it does depend on the fish and how hardy they are. If you're going to have to use public transport and go on the bus you'd be better of getting the train as it'll be shorter and you'll be less likely to be bumped into and drop your fish or something bad like that happening than you would on the bus

    yes.

i believe i kept my fish in the bag for 2 hours max once.

went to the fish store at the mall and was going to go straight home until my cousin wanted to go play billards so we played for about an hour then we had to catch the bus and that took a while waiting for it to even come. fish was alive and everything.

don't be like me though this was when i was young. now i go straight home and that is what you should actually do.

They should be fine. Be sure to put the plastic bags inside like a lunch bag cooler of some sort.
