Do i Need a boating license?
I have a 16 foot bass boat with a 45 hp motor. I live in virginia but go to michigan to use it. when i turn 16 next year i dont need a boaters license anymore do i?

Hi Stanvangrandy,
In Michigan, you don't need a card after the age of 16. However, you do need a card if you ever decide to boat in Virginia. My suggestion is to take the Virginia course, which covers you for most states anyway. If you are certain you will only ever boat in Michigan then you won't need it, but it isn't long to acquire and is good for life. Best of all, right now until September 15, it is absolutely free to take the BoaterExam.com Virginia course. I would suggest getting it now rather than waiting to find out you will want it later when it is $30 again.

strangely, in many places, you do not need a license. But check in the specific area in which you use the boat. You should also take watercraft safety courses.
