Which towns/cities are the best for a family in Oregon?
My husband and I are looking to move from Redding, CA (about an hour and a half from the border of Oregon) into Oregon.
We are planning a trip there soon to see which town/city would be best for us and our baby on the way. I was born in Oregon, so I remember vaguely how it was and I would really love to get out of California and back to my roots.
Out of the following, which cities/towns are the best for a family of three?
Please take into account housing costs, unemployment rates, crime rates, whether or not there are any charter schools, and general appeal of the towns.
My husband loves forests, and hiking, and I love the ocean and being outdoors in general.
We both enjoy a climate that is generally colder, (Redding gets to be about 120 degrees some summers, TOO HOT.)
Please let me know what you think!
Here are the towns/cities we are considering:
Bend, OR
Eugene, OR
Portland, OR
Hillsboro, OR
McMinnville, OR
Lincoln City, OR
Newport, OR
Florence, OR
If you have any information on any of those towns/cities, please let me know!!
Thanks!

I would recommend Newport or Lincoln city because it generally stays in the 45-55 degree area. Its on the beach but also very close to the coast range which has hiking. Because its on the beach it doesn't have the greatest schools and the cost of housing will be more. The city with the best schools on your list is Hillsboro and Eugene. Although Hillsboro is cheaper to live in than all the rest, the crime rate is moderate and frankly, not a very appealing city! So to answer your questions, each city has its lows and highs. Its just you have to decide what to sacrifice.

I would recommend you check out Lincoln City, OR. There's something for everyone here - hiking, boating, walking on the beach; a thriving arts community with multiple galleries, a community theater and a Cultural Center; an amazing Community Center with a pool, rock climbing wall, 2 story fitness center, basketball court and indoor track; schools both public and private; moderate temps, and great air quality. It gets a little crowded in summer, but as a local you'll get to know the back roads so it's not too bad.
I have lived in Lincoln City for the last 8 years and I can honestly say there is no place I've liked better.
