How to figure out cooking fractions?

I am going to make iced coffee and the recipe calls for 1 pound of coffee and 8 quarts of water. my french press only makes 8 cups so how can I convert this to fit?

    1 quart = 4 cups

    8 quarts = 32 cups

    8 cups/32 cups = 1/4

    So, your french press requires 1/4 the amount of coffee the recipe calls for:

    1 lb = 16 ounces

    1 lb * 1/4 = 16 ounces * 1/4 = 4 ounces of coffee

    There are 4 cups in a quart so you can make 2 quarts. 8/2=4 so divide 1 pound by 4 and you get 1/4.

    This means that you should use 1/4 pound of coffee and 2 quarts of water.
