Forced Catholocism-ish?

At a catholic school, as a boarder, I have to go to Sunday mass, which I do. Any way they have now changed the rules for us to participate in all activities and we are not allowed to fall asleep or rest our heads on chairs in front. Or else we have to go again on Tuesday.... My point is I'm an atheist and the school is one of my few options so I can't leave and it's getting on my nerves that I can't fall asleep! I was fine going to chapel and I did nothing wrong at all a stood up knelt and was reverent but fell asleep when possible... You know how mass is!

Is it wrong that I fall asleep, in chapel (remember I don't beleive in God)?

Do you think it's ok for them to do this?

If you chose that school, then you would have to honor their beliefs and values. There is an old saying: "when in Rome, do as the Romans do." Your atheism doesn't come into play here. It is a Catholic school and they are teaching reverence based on their values, not yours.

Speak to your parents about it, and talk to your priest about the reasons you object to going. But do not fall asleep during mass, it is disrespectful and immature, and that may be why you are not taken seriously. God bless.

    Here are my recommendations:

    1) Put on your anthropologist's hat and consider this field work among this strange group of human beings. Pay close attention and try to learn what makes them tick.

    2) If you wish, you can pray the Atheist's Prayer:

"God, there is no knowledge that frightens me, even knowledge of you. For this passing moment, I suspend my disbelief, without bias or prejudice. I am uncertain, without proof. Please deign to speak to me."
