Dream Interpretation?

Interpretations welcome! :)

I had a very strange dream! I met up with a person I hadn't seen in almost seven years. When I knew him originally, we only interacted for maybe a month and I'd say we became whatever you call that thing between aquaintance and friend. So the bond wasn't strong. We'll call him Nate. In the dream, I saw a sewing machine and thought, "Hmm, that machine is hard at work. Gosh, I hope Nate doesn't get any crazy ideas." My best memory of Nate is how crazy he was. (Very sexually active with women, a partier, loved weed, that type of stuff... BTW, those are probably the reasons why we didn't become good friends, because I'm not into any of those things. Not even women, I'm gay.) Anyway, as I was worried about him getting ideas, he kind of lifts one of his hands and one of mine and acts like he's got a great idea. I thought, "Uh uh, you can't be thinking about sewing our hands together." He didn't agree, but didn't disagree. So the person sewing (I didn't see his/her face) actually grabbed my thumb, had a blade that looked like those rectangular blades about two inches by one (the ones used in those old style razors that you would open and put the blad inside), and then cut a slit on my finger. I didn't bleed, nor felt pain. Just got scared for a quick moment. But I was surprised at seeing that it wasn't as painful or damaging as I could imagine. And he wanted to show me that getting it sewed wouldn't be a problem. I refused. Then Nate acted more willing and went on to get his finger cut and sewed. I remember thinking, "Wow, you can sew skin with thread?!" Even in the dream I saw in confussion. Woke up the same way. Can you help me find any meaning--if any--to this dream? Thanks in advance! :)

Update:

@Arielle Rain

There are some things that seem to be spot on. I am definitely working on being frugal and smarter with my financial decisions. I've improved a lot, and at the same time I have ironically realized that money isn't everything in life.

With Nate, though, I'm not sure I would call him modest or a hard worker. His parents gave him EVERYTHING... and more. It was one thing I didn't respect about him, that he was so spoiled and ungrateful for what he was given. His only concern was his next smoke, party, girl, fun, etc. I recently found out on Facebook that he's engaged to be married, which actually surprised me a lot. Let me know if that leads you to any more conclussions. What you've said until now has helped a lot! Thanks in advance!

Update 2:

Arielle-

Thanks for the advice! I've done some searching and I think I've found out what's going on. Even though I hated his careless attitude and lifestyle, I envy it also. I think I'm trying to avoid (or maybe stop) letting my good choices become extreme to the point that I don't even enjoy life. It seems I want to "sew" the finger of responsibility (me) with the finger of free spiritedness (him) in an effort to become more balanced... but I'm afraid to do that. In fact, its hard for me to believe those two can even coexist. I know I need to be balanced but its hard to do when you're trying to not make the same mistakes you used to make.

    Interesting dream you have here :) let me know what you think about the following:

    To see a sewing machine in your dream denotes that economizing will help you through difficult times. You need to be more frugal.

    To see a thumb in your dream indicates that you need to get a grip on things.

    Your friend "nate" isn't representing himself, but some sort of memory/trait you know him to have.

    From the sounds of it, it might sound as if you are realizing you need to get a better grip on your budget and be more thrifty. Thus you walk in and see a sewing machine (something that works hard and is thrifty) You see Nate there. Maybe you remember him as being a "modest" dresser? able to get by on little cash? didn't have the nice things that you did but you saw how he was able to get by without working so hard?

    you contemplate sewing your two hands together.. which is you contemplating what it would be like to live as nate lives, kind of crazy,with a different outlook on a budget

    You get a cut on your finger but it doesn't hurt just scares you a little. So you must have taken a blow to your finances or "work output" recently and realized that..hey it doesn't hurt as bad as I thought it would.. i'm able to be thrifty to get back on track and everything is still A-OK!

    Once again you associate Nate with someone who was thrifty or able to live under the means you are accustomed to

    let me know your thoughts

    EDIT: Ok i'm not sure exactly why you are associating Nate, in this situation but maybe you can search your brain and think about other circumstances of the dream that might come to mind. Are there any other observations you noticed about Nate and what he is trying to represent to you. It has something to do with how he values his choices, living style, or something it seems. but I can't tell you for sure what it is but its something you might be able to find if you search your brain for the connection
