This is one area where books are probably preferable to online research. Why? Most websites are trying to sell you something, and they're often not upfront about it.
This stuff is not all that complicated, but it is VERY important to know. Libraries and used book stores are great resources you can use to educate yourself without breaking the bank.
Here are some titles to get you started:
- Investing for Dummies, by Eric Tyson
- Personal Finance for Dummies, by Eric Tyson
- The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous and Broke, by Suze Orman
- The Only Investment Guide You'll Ever Need, by Andrew Tobias
These are just a sample - any library or book store employee can point you to the Personal Finance section, where you'll find dozens (if not hundreds) of great books on the topic. Thumb through a few and pick one or two that seem the most user-friendly to you.
I hope that helps. Good luck!
