  • Configuring Windows 7 Firewall?

I was trying to configure the Windows 7 firewall to block all programs by default, and allow only specific programs to connect to the Internet (which I allow myself).

It should display a message when the program tries to connect to the internet for the first time (Asking, whether I want to allow the program). Just like the other Firewalls like Comodo, and Norton Internet Security works.

Is it possible to configure the firewall like that?

I am not getting the options in Inbound and Outbound Rules in the firewall settings. It will either block all the programs or allow certain programs using its own logic.

If it is not possible, I will go for a third party firewall.

  • Windows 7 Laptop Overheating?

I have recently changed to Windows 7 from XP, in my Compaq 794 laptop, with 2 gb ram and dual core.

After installing Windows 7, I could see that the laptop is overheating. It was not the case when XP was there just yesterday.

My hardware is fine, this has got something to do with the OS itself.

Can you please help me out here? Anybody has similar experience?

  • XP safe mode help!!!!?

I want to keep my laptop in safe mode for a day, as I am de-archiving some .arc archives, which are going to take a long time and can't be done in normal mode.

The problem is that the display is on all the time. Even if I configure the display to turnoff after 5 minutes, it stays on. Is there any trick to make it work in safe mode?

I don't want to keep the display running all day long, this may damage it.

  • Extracting .arc files in XP?

I have downloaded some large .arc files (~ 500mb), but not being able to extract them in XP.

I tried all the extractors available: 7zip, Peazip and so on.

The error given by Peazip is some like: "not enough memory", but I have 2 gigs RAM and 28 gigs of disk space.

    Had anybody encountered similar problems?

Any guidance will be highly appreciated.

  • Battlestations: Pacific?

This game requires 256MB graphics memory (GeForce 6800GT+, ATI Radeon X1800+[3]) and 1 GB RAM.

I have integrated x3100 Intel, but 2 GB RAM.

I meet rest of the requirement.

Do you think the 1 GB extra RAM will compensate for not having the graphics card?

Or, it will run slow? Not Load?

This game is a new release and expensive, I do not want to waste my money if it will not work.

  • Hard drive running out of space: Looking for alternative storage?

I filled my 360 gb HD is little more than one year, and a 80GB portable hard-drive in the next 4-5 months. Most of the data came through torrents. I do NOT want to delete most of them.

Clearly, I need to buy additional storage. But this time I am looking for a cheaper and more permanent storage medium. The portable drive was expensive as a storage.

With your experience, can you please guide me here; what would you like to go for?

  • Driver for keyboard ??????

I recently formatted my laptop and reinstalled Windows XP and all the drivers.

Everything is fine except 2-3 keyboard buttons are not working (@ and \ keys are not coming). It is due to wrong/missing driver or some other setting is there?

Do laptops need key board drivers? I installed all the drivers I had in the bundle.

Any ideas what it could be for Compaq C794wu? (XP)
