What other animals are there similar to a raccoon and possum?
Saw a huge black furry thing outside my window that faces the garden.
Didn't have a mask around the eye area like most raccoons but the tail,
unlike a possum was thick and furry.
Like thick long black bushy Persian cat hair all over but not a cat cuz
it had almost a rat face with pointy snout. Never saw such a thing before.
Anybody know what it could be? I googled both raccoon and possum pics
but can't seem to find exactly the same. Do possum and raccoon crossbreed?
Do people keep these things as pets or something cuz I never saw one wild in
Astoria before.
I don't think it was a skunk because the whole thing was solid
black all over. Didn't seem to have any markings though maybe
it's possible the mask wasn't visible in the dark? I felt sorry for it
because I guess it was lost. It was very strong. I thought it might
actually try to come through the glass cuz it kept clawing at it
so I ran to close the other window as it could have come through
the screen way too easily. Was surprised I couldn't find any other
reports of it online. Hopefully it found it's way home, whatever
who's ever it is. Definitely not a possum though for I would have
noticed such a tail and teeth and toes as that. hmmm so weird.
Thanks
:Omg Doe! That's very possible because that's the closest description I've seen so far and I did wonder about the possibility if he/she was someone's lost pet because the coat of fur was so thick, shiny and healthy looking. Unlike the wild one in the pic. Perhaps that's what made it appear so huge only not a single spot of any other color anywhere on it could I see except for the deepest, richest of azabachi. I just remembered a tenants daughter graduated from Vet school in Jamaica and she is back in NY interning somewhere. haha perhaps it's her's. A gift from family in Korea maybe or Dr. Doolittle strikes again pwaaaaaaahahaaaaaaaa

I wonder if it had been someones exotic "pet" and they set it free or it got loose somehow. So many people have animals that should be kept in natural habitat but they try to domesticate them and when they age they have one scary pet.

Sure it's not a skunk? Seen a few around NYC parks at night... and they do get pretty big :P
