How can i get my pitbull more muscular?

Okay before people start with stupid answers...first of all i am a HUGEE animal advocate. i would never put an animal in danger and im a young woman. So no, im not looking to train a fighter dog. And even if i was trying to raise a fighter dog, do you REALLY think i would look to a place like yahoo answers as my source of knowledge-_- And I do NOT want to strengthen her jaws either. I even watch the chew toys i buy her just to make sure theyre not meant for jaw strength. I recently adopted a pit though and she was a rescue. She is pretty much all bones though and ive been feeding her as much as the doctor allows me. I want her to have that nice muscular healthy look. I LOVE playing with my dogs. We run, play soccer (well as much as they can since they really dont get the concept), and even wrestle sometimes. How can i get her to be a little more on the built and muscular side?

Since she's female, she probably won't get really ripped looking, lol. However, there are ways to build her muscles. My boy gets a half-hour run with me on my bike per day, as well as weight-pulling training two to three times a week. He LOVES it too! And I know you want to (I do too, it's really hard) but don't feed her more than the doctor says. In the dog world, less is more. To give her nice muscle tone, you really don't want to overfeed her. Good luck! Your girl sounds awesome!

Try switching food perhaps, something high protein and high quality of course would be best(NutroMax worked well for my puppy). Other than a healthy diet, lots of exercise which is a no brainier. You could get her a backpack and fill it with stuff and go on long walks/hikes. You could also look into weight pulling, many bully type breeds are awesome at this. Some dogs are naturally lean though so if you can't get her to bulk up a bit don't dwell on it.

I would advise that you try looking up "pit bull food" on the internet to see if there is any specific brand of food for this breed. Alternatively, if you know anyone with a really muscular pit bull, you could try asking them what they do to make their dog so muscular.

  • Just keep doing what you're doing. Feed her dog food that is REAL meat, with no corn or byproducts; and exercise her like crazy.

She should not be all beefed up like most Pits that you see today, this is the breed standard and it is perfect. They are not meant to look like the stubby little hippos that you see in chained up behind all the drug dealer's trailers.
