Lighter and less prone to contamination. The plastic ones are also compatible to be used while wearing a gas mask.

what everybody else is saying, cheaper and compatible with a gas mask and im pretty sure they are a little lighter as well, anything to cut back on just a little weight is always done. and i know what you mean by heat related i think, are you talking about like when plastic heats up it becomes soft, if so i dont even think that would be a problem, the canteens are still tough and will work if the military is using them.

Since reverse to what you may feel... They are not for consuming water.. But for decontamination water. Try manipulating with some thing shaped differently in MOPP suit. Additionally, the classical design was round well earlier than the molle and have been worn at the hip belt. Hence, anatomic shape. Honey, you undoubtedly lack army coaching. If your sh!T is dangling loosely on your belt, it is clunking and breaking and falling away. That is why they make it to hug intently and match tight. You'd comprehend in the event you stop enacting and started SERVING. I've achieved so with the "commonplace challenge" plastic bottle as well as with the good historical aluminum hip flask designed in WWII occasions. These flasks aren't coming in boxes, hence the oblong form would be ridiculous (and like other folks pointed out, straight away unhygienic).

They are all wrong. The aluminum canteens were done away with because they became toxic when heated over and over again for shving and cooking water. Aluminum causes toxicity thus affecting the central nervous system. Mess kits were also aluminum and then changed to stainless steal. Dont believe me, look it up.

tell me. what sound does a bird make? (cheap cheap cheap)
latic canteens are thicker, and thus will keep the water cooler, longer. it has a top designed to work with the gas mask drinking tube as well. the canteen pack comes with and fits inside a 'tin cup' that has handles, that you can dump water into to heat for food, tea, coffess, sanitizing, etc.

Aluminum tends to contaminate the water and poisons the human body over time.

WTF is "better heat related"?
They are lighter and cheaper. And most modern militaries use a version of the camel back over canteens anymore.
