Getting past the break on a Wavestorm Foam Surfboard?

I am learning to surf on my Wavestorm foam board. I took 3 lessons and was told by one instructor that i won't be able to do an effective turtle roll on my foam board. Is this true? If so, then is there any other method to get past the break? I'm surfing solo now and I usually get past most of it by angling by board over the waves but with big surf I get chicken and bail my board and just dive through the wave. I want to avoid bailing the board as much as possible. Any tips from experience surfers? Thanks!

Turtling that sucker is your best bet. Make sure when you flip over you pull the nose down so that when the wave rolls over you and the board it will push you both down and out the back and not back toward the shore. Just try not to ditch the board cause it could hit someone and even though its a foam getting hit by it would be painful or dangerous especially if it hit someone in the head.

I used to have a 7'6 foam surfboard. What I would personally do is roll onto your back while flipping the surfboard up and down, so the white belly of the board is up. This let the wave roll easily over my board. The afterwards, I could simply flip the board over and hop on. Hope this helps!
