5 yrs is too far back, I have been here for more than 3.5 yrs though.
Users back in the early days of my time here were far more friendly and accommodating, and there was no existence of cliques among users. Each question was answered/starred based on merit and merit only, whether it be a qn from a well known contributor with many contacts, or a newbie. This was probably due to the fact that there were no cliques, as mentioned earlier. We were all in the same boat.
However presently, there are very strong sub-groups in the section with a strong group identity, and anyone not part of it would feel more or less ignored. You can expect many answers/stars to your qn because of brand value (your alias) and not the quality of your qns.

I sometimes look at the resolved questions though it's difficult to draw comparisons because I've not been a member for 1 year just yet. Also even 5 years back there must have been a lot of questions that were reported and dropped by the abuse team which I can't weigh against recent trolling. Sad to say though that I have seen questions not even in the slightest related to cricket, such as those inciting others to:
1) Rape.
2) Murder.
3) Riot.
4) Racism.
And I'm not lying as well a lot of people on here know. Piss taking is fair enough but not the stuff mentioned above, it should have no place on here.
I get on well enough with most members on here, cricket being a common interest. I also make an effort to star interesting questions, regardless of whether or not someone is my contact because it's obnoxious to play favourites all the time. However, I also take into account that someone who posts consistently knowledgeable replies is worth having as a contact and that if I have someone in my network, the chances are that they will get proportionately more stars. This is because they will show up on my home page where as if I have been off line for a while, otherwise interesting posts might get missed or have been resolved by the time I get back on.

I'm also still a bit new here.I joined in about 6 months earlier and I really love YA especially the cricket section but I really don't know about the past here but at the present I agree with "the y factor".That's true.Whatever said and done we are all humans despite being other nationalities. Some people might fight in here but that doesn't make a difference in the real world. That just doesn't mean anything. They don't gain anything from that. I have a read some old resolved questions which were about 2 or 4 years old in here and most of those seem different than the present questions. Those are related to cricket at least but most trolls here ask questions which has nothing to do with cricket. That's the main difference I see here.

Got to agree with few great posts. Now there is harmony amongst most users, limited bad activity takes place & it gets apt replies. Been here for almost 3 years now. Earlier trolls dominated the proceedings, which thankfully isn't the case anymore.
It went bad for a while, when it was difficult to find cricketing content in this section. Gradually people started gelling together, after initial bouts of hatred & non-acceptance of good deeds.
Can't say that grouping didn't happen earlier or its not happening now. I never gave free * & got into the habit just this year & I have already put a stop to it. I really wonder sometimes, how non cricketing posts end up getting 20+ stars. Yet its a personal choice, its something free & doesn't give anything in turn to the person receiving the stars.
The biggest change in users here being that the patience has grown, appreciation is on the increase & harmony amongst the regular users is great.
Banter is still missing, things are taken literally sometimes but the hatred levels have decreased for sure. Which is the biggest & most welcome change. Every time a team wins, we get compliments from the losing team, which puts the winning fans at ease, instead of putting down the opposition, which was being played on earlier, almost without fail.
You can't have totally serious users only, as odd posts put a smile on the face, with their one liners but volume of decent posts is on the rise & bad posts are declining, way to go..

I was here 5 years ago and more, but this is the first time I've checked the Cricket section in a couple of months. I don't bother any more because so many of the questions are asked by points gamers and almost all the rest of the "input" is some pretty disgusting trolling. Either way it's generally a waste of my time to look here.

Was not around 5 years back. So can't comment.
@Hotspot and y! factor, strongly agree with you. As Hotspot said, some users' attitudes have changed drastically but that depends upon the mindset of the users here. Trolls only can't be accused of polluting this section. Strong opinions ( without any evidence) play a vital part there.
And as y!factor said, lobbying has been the main problem for quite sometime now. Rather than appreciating the posts, there has been a practice of starring and giving TUs to the member of their own lobby.

Back then it was friendly & pleasant, but then a certain user who is still here destroyed it all with his nastiness & harassment of another female user.Lots of users either left or were driven out by at least two users. There was no nastiness back then like we see today. For instance, some user here is systematically going through all the resolved Qs & reporting other users answers, mine included. It has to be a TC with troll accounts & good reporting power. Now why would anyone do that? Because of his actions I have had to remove most of my contacts

Lots of funny trolls and funny but really bad words. I must say, I learnt a lot of bad words, even in other languages which I don't know to speak. Sometimes I was furious @ those people, but after two or 3 hours I realized that I was so stupid to quarrel with them. When I view my answers back(I alway write down the q's I answer as I don't answer much) sometimes I can't stop laughing. But after all it's a real comfort to communicate & share ideas with the people in the same sub continent after a long day.

Im not a top contributor here.. Only joined few weeks ago..
I knew about YA for quite sometime.. Like when you google "what are the best underground hiphop songs" you will always come up with a YA in search results.. But never thought about joining here and answering them..
Reason to join this thing was an accident too.. I was searching for the release day of Real football 2013 mobile game.. And come up with a YA question which was unanswered.. Could have move on had somebody answered that.. But in order to answer that I had to create an acount.. Nuff with this stories..
Yeah.. Not really many funny Qs to answer.. Thats a fact.. "True Trolls" arent bad.. Altho bit mad.. I like the company of this mad people.. Like my fellow weed smokers.. But these trolls arent funny.. They make me wanna smack in they fûkcing mouth.. These guys are really irritating like that hômô joker from old Hindi and Tamil movies..
Other than that,, yeah,, its nor bad nor that dâmn good.. Like mineral water.. You still need it somehow..

I still come in here and answer the odd question but the trolls here aren't even funny anymore. You could have a laugh with them but not now. I agree with Bored that some here seem to only want to stir up trouble between users.
