why is their more celebrites from the usa than britain?

or maybe it is just numbers, the US population is 10 times larger than the UK's there are many more TV and radio stations in the US so more chances for someone to attain stardom.

for clarification, I've stated "US population is 10 times larger" where I really mean North America's population (i.e. including Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Jamaica et al) I've done so because there are many "american" celebrities that people assume are american but who actually hail from Canada (William Shatner, Jim Carrey, Pamela Anderson, John Candy and James Cameron for example).

Unfortunately, it is because Americans are more "celebrity oriented". In Great Britain, celebrities are seen as merely actors and don't have as large a public role. They're just not as important.

I just watched "ABC World News" last Sunday and was rather disappointed. There was nothing world about it. No Australia, Europe, Asia, or anything. Just a little about US news, and then a lot of time spent on Dancing With The Stars, and some more celebrity stuff. Seriously? Really? This is world news?

Americans don't know who their Vice President is, how to find Guam on a map, or what the 50th state is. But they know where Alec Baldwin lives.

Aside from the obvious population difference, America also has a big celebrity making machine in and around Hollywood. They are experts at taking someone with (or without) talent and shoving them into public sphere (whether the public likes it or not) so much to the point that people have no choice but to concede that this person is now a "celebrity".

The UK population is around 62 million, the USA population is 310 million (i.e. 5 times as many). Obviously they'll have more people in every occupation.

Probally because most of the film actors in the modern era come from the USA

Now we have One Direction we have beaten them all. ! They have previously made more of Americans before we got our own universe beaters.
