How do I get my Blu-ray player to play Blu-rays at the highest resolution?

I have a 1080 Blu-ray player hooked up with an HDMI cable to a 32" Sony Bravia. The max resolution in 720 on the TV. When I watch a Blu-ray, it only goes to 480i resolution. How can I change this? Thank you for the help.

Update:

Thank you for the quick responses. I double-checked and it is a Blu-ray disc, I have it connected with an HDMI cable. The problem I am having is that I am trying to change the settings on the TV and the player, but I can't figure out how to change them.

You need to check the setting on the Blu-ray player as well as the TV. Are you connected with an HDMI cable? If you're using component cables they too could be reducing your resolution.

are you sure you are using a Blu-ray disc? 480i is the resolution of standard DVD movies.
