My son hasn't pooped in 2 weeks?

My 16 month old wouldnt poop or eat anything. so i took him to the dr and they did a xray to see how back up he is. He is so backed up that there is no room for him to eat. They took me he has to poop or I will have to take him to the er and he will have to stay. He has always had a hard time pooping seen he was 4 months old. How can i get him to poop. Ive tryed everything. we got the pedia-lax for kids. i also got him a saline one that goes in his but. he drinks lots lots of water. He has a twin that poops good. I changed his foods. I just want him to poop some more. He went 1 time last night but it wasnt a lot at all. thank you!

Give him lots of food that are very high in fiber. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/high-fiber-foods/... There are also Fiber one bars.

Stay away from this list of foods. http://www.livestrong.com/article/196626-list-of-f...

If the stool is hard you may have to soften it up with a rectal liquid more than once. He may have a hard stool at the base of his rectum and he is unable to pass this stool if so the doctors may have to help him by manually removing that stool.

If he has not passed a poo for TWO weeks I would be very worried and go and see your Doctor again to make sure he has not got a blockage etc

Once this is sorted out you need to reassess his diet ...........

You could ask to speak to a dietitian or someone at your local clinic may be able to give you some advice or leaflets .

I would increase the roughage in his diet, weetabix is always popular with kids Quite often they like bran flakes or similar just dry in a bowl (like crisps)and give him plenty of fluids ,fruit.and fruit smoothies etc Neat fruit juice might be a bit acidy for a 16 month old but you can put water in it

Mine used to like hot/warm water and orange juice or blackcurrant especially in winter

Vegetables can be mashed up or disguised in soups etc

Apple can be cooked with a little sugar

Banana is good mashed or thinly sliced in a brown bread butty~ Very good at supper time as bananas help you sleep

Try not to" seem" stressed about Kids pooing as they will then be stressed and not want to poo or they may use it as a way of getting attention The good old "star chart " is very effective as they can put the star on the chart when they have a poo and you don't have to keep asking them about it all the time and making a big issue out of it

    Good Luck

Does he drink juice yet? My twins had the same problem, the only thing that worked was having them drink apple, mango, or pear juice. They are high in fiber and contain natural sugars. Also, if your baby isn't very active, exercise him. With him lying on his back (on your lap or in front of you) gently grasp his ankles and alternate moving them. -Kindof imitating what his legs would be doing if he were able to walk briskly.

If even the pedialax didn't help - get him to hospital urgently. Autointoxication from the intestines can (in the long term) be fatal.
