I need meal ideas for a very picky toddler?

My son over the past couple of months has decided to dislike almost all meals. It's not picky when it comes to snack (apple sauce, yogurt, fruits, cheese and crackers) but as for meals it's really tough to get him to eat. He loves cheese, won't touch meat and won't have half of veggies.

So if anyone has some tricks or good toddler proof meal ideas I'd love to hear there, I'm student and really want to get some meals ready for the freezer soon for those late nights this fall. Thank you :)

Update:

Thank you snake bite but he's actually 2 and a half. as a baby he was so easy!

So glad I am not alone!!! My son turned two in July and he is the exact same way, hates meat and hates veggies and will only eat bananas! I get him to eat fruit in fruit smoothies. I prepare fruit smoothie kits ahead of time and stick them in the freezer. I even found out you can freeze yogurt by putting spoonfuls in a cupcake pans and let them freeze. Then I put the yogurt and fruit into bags and label them so I just have to pop open the bag and put them in blender and add milk. As far as veggies I have gotten him to eat corn and the only reason why is because he loves balls and I call them little balls. As far as meat I buy the Gerber pasta pickups that have meat in them because he will actually eat those. He will also eat chicken nuggets but has to have ketchup. Which that helped too...kids love ketchup! I try to by anything for him in whole wheat or organic or look for ketchup with no high fructose corn syrup or preservatives. It is so hard getting them to eat but just know you are not alone! Our pediatrician said kids can be like this until age 5 and my husband was picky like this until age 8! I have also tried hiding very small pieces of chicken in grilled cheese...which most of the time he finds and picks out. Just keep trying..dont give up! If you are looking for recipes for freezer meals check out "Pinterest" Its a website FULL of recipes etc...there are tons! Good luck!

Understand the many premises behind The Paleo Diet and that will help guide you toward living a complete Paleo Diet lifestyle. Learn here https://tr.im/xuhUi

For breakfast, make an easy omelet. Peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli in olive oil; add omega-3-enriched or free-range eggs and diced turkey or chicken breast.

Paleo lunches are easy. At the beginning of the week, make a huge salad with anything you like. A good starting point can be mixed greens, spinach, radishes, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, avocadoes, walnuts, almonds and sliced apples or pears.

For dinner, try spaghetti squash as a substitute for any pasta recipe. Top with pesto, marinara and meatballs. Roasted beets and their greens make a great side dish for pork.

Add fruit puree to his yoghurt, or porridge. If he will eat sauces (and dip breadsticks or toast fingers into them!) then passata is a good one. Basically it's canned tomatoes with other pureed veg like courgettes in it and cooked down until it is thick. You can put it on pasta, spread it on pizzas or toast or just dip breadsticks or cheese fingers into it. It's a good base for spaghetti bolognese so its a family food and it freezes very well.

My 2 1/2 year old pretty much only eats carbs. She will eat bananas, bread of all kinds, fish fingers, pizza (crust) porridge oats, youghurt. No cheese, no fruit or veg, no eggs. No baked beans. No soup. No meat. She's driving me mad! I keep putting a plate of the same as the rest of us are having in front of her in the hope that she will eat it one day. Sometimes she will. Last week she ate all the broccolli. One thing I found she would do was steal food off Daddy's plate when he has a snack or eats sat on the sofa. She ate an entire garlic and parsley chicken kiev once and the other day ate 4 poppadoms dipped in quite a hot pathia sauce. Keep trying lots of different things, you never know what they are going to like.

Additional: Don't listen to Clockwork that healthy kids wont starve themselves! My health visitor told me to only feed my daughter foods like vegetables etc, she will eat them when she is hungry. After a day of no food, I called the health visitor worried. She said carry on, dont give up. She said that every day when I called her. When my daughter had not eaten for 5 days I gave it up. Healthy kids WILL starve themselves.

Well, first, you might want to buy sauces or dips (healthy ones) that add more flavor. Or you can try this book I love. My mom makes the best meals in this!

I had the same problem with one of my twin girls just last year, one was fine but the other one would refuse almost everything- even seeing her sister eating and enjoying most foods ddint prompt her into eating.

What we did for a while was mush things up, as if to almost disguse them. One of her favourites was carrots and sweet potatoes. I know it seems like going back to basics and all that but it did eventually work and we built her up into bigger chunks. Another trick we tried was to make the food talk, which seems silly, but again it worked and she started to make it talk too.

As for the sort of meals, we tried many things with pasta and sauces as they were simple and they looked apestising. They also liked things that they could pick up and play with, and also they were easy to prepare which helped when both myself and my husband were working long hours.

    Good luck :o)

  • Try maybe macaroni cheese if you can freeze that I'm not sure and cauliflower cheese try telling him like the broccoli is trees and says he's a dinosaur and hes going to eat all the trees try to make up a story for him do as the story goes on he had to eat the foods Also for my brother we say try to do a reverse thing saying like " I bet you can't eat all that up " and oh course he then wants to

Hope this helped good luck :)

You can try one of each, in the baby food isle to see what he likes most and least likes.

He may have a food alergy or be one of those people with an extra taste bud. They taste things the vast majority of people don't and it makes some food taste rotten and disgusting.

Of course he just may be a rebel baby. Some babies can rebel and control their parents just for the sheer pleasure of it.

Good luck, I know it isn't easy dealing with a difficult baby. BTW making them skip a meal won't hurt them any and just may cure them at least for that day.

    Don't cater to him

    Healthy kids won't starve themselves

He knows if he holds out you will give him snacks so he holds out. He needs to learn that he has to eat what you serve or he gets nothing at all. If he doenst eat what's served then he can't have anything else. A healthy child won't starve themselves
