    General Certificate of Secondary Education.

    GCSE are compulsory for all student in the England and Wales,they are started in Year 10 (14 years old) and finish in year 11 (16 years old). Schools are then graded on the number of schools gaining good GCSE results C-A* grade in a percentage, the higher the percentage the better the school.

    The higher the GCSE grade the better the qualification is, which then helps determine collage and sixth form places.
