What would you do if you neighbors got a hybrid mutt?

and while you're at it, enjoy this below-the-belt, and yet so right, article

http://www.bloomberg.com/money-gallery/2%E2%80%A6

LEGIT: If your neighbor got a Labradoodle, would you say anything to them? Would you shun the dog?

Me: I would not. I disapprove, but it would be dooshy to preach to/scold neighbors after the fact. The dog has found a home with them. At this point, crapping on their new dog experience is not in the dogs best interest. And no doubt most of the time your message won't be well taken anyway and nothing will be accomplished except bad feelings.

2) no, it's not the dog's fault. I'd be kind to the dog and encourage my dogs to befriend it.

In my former location, my next door neighbors got a labradoodle, and my other next door neighbors got a rescue mutt. My shelter mutts and those mutts all became good friends and playmates. All good.

Update:

http://www.bloomberg.com/money-gallery/2011-09-13/...

@ Greek: "your promoting pound mutts has been noted". LOL... really? I wasn't promoting anything except not being a doosh to neighbors here... but let's play along and say I was. So what?

Update 2:

Wow - haven't seen UHAVE2B in here in forever! but I suppose if anything would pull her out of the woodwork - a Q like this would do the trick!

Update 3:

UHAVE: I'd call their dog a labradoodle right along with them... and I'd then describe my dogs as ChiShiBeaRatPlottPit Hua Huas

Other peoples dogs are not my business. I do not seriously talk dogs with anyone outside of work, especially pet owners, unless I am getting payed for it. Your link does not work and your attempt to promote pound mutts has not gone unnoticed.

ADD: You CAN be a douche to the neighbors...as far as the mutt promotion, we have enough mutt promoting in here to gag anyone. Anything else you want to know, just let me know, I will try to help.

Would I shun the dog? Seriously, who would have the kind of energy to do that.

Anytime I get into a conversation with someone who tries to tell me their dog is a something-doodle, I always use a "poodle mix" retort. I certainly do not want them to believe I am as stupid as they are by legitimizing their fantasy.

As long as my neighbors do not have mutant dogs that are a threat to my animals I really do not care what they have at the end of a lead.

The term 'hybrid mutt" is redundant. Using the term "hybrid" is another way people try to legitimize a mutt as something special. A hybrid is correctly an animal that is the result of a cross outside of its species.

  • I honestly don't care what my neighbors do. Unless they're showing off their "pure bred" mutt, bragging about it, etc... I probably wouldn't say jack to them. Not my dog, not my money, not my problem. So long as their dogs don't pose a threat to my kids, my animals, or myself and my husband, I really don't care what they throw their money away on. If they were to ask for my honest opinion, they probably wouldn't like it, but whatever, they asked for it, ya know?

Would I shun the dog? Probably not. Would I go out of my way to play with and or socialize with the dog? Probably not, because I have my own dogs and kids to worry about. I don't normally go out of my way to mess with someone else's dog unless I'm invited to do so. I wouldn't necessarily shun the dog, but I probably wouldn't have much reason to do anything with it anyway. I don't blame dogs for breeder/owner ignorance.

ETA: As far as what I'd call it, my dog or not, I absolutely, 100%, without a shadow of a doubt, REFUSE to use the ridiculous names these dogs are given. I'd gladly call it what it is, but I will NOT use the stupid cutesy name to encourage people thinking it's a real breed.

Personally, I could care less what kind of dog other people get or where they got it. If it was my neighbor, I make a fuss over the pup, wish her luck, tell her where the dogs meet in the park, where the local groomers are and about obedience and/or agility training.

If someone shuns a person because they choose get get a labradoodle or any other kind of mixbreed, then their not much of a human being.

I would keep my own counsel as the breed or mix someone else chooses to purchase is none of my business.

A mutt is not responsible for its existence, so would treat it no differently than any other dog.

I could care less what kind of dogs the neighbors have, not my business and unless the dogs are aggressive and causing a problem or unless the owners are neglecting their dog or abusing I see no point in sticking my nose where it isnt wanted.

I would not do anything. What other people choose to buy is not my concern. I love dogs so I would probably want to see it and play with it. In fact I know lots of people with "hydrids", crosses, mutts, whatever you want to call them, and they are all perfectly nice dogs.

who cares what the neighbors do? i got better things to do then watch my neighbors and wonder what's going on. by the way mutts are just as good as pure breds, i have a shepard mix and purebred bulldogs. so why rag on mutts any way? you like purebreds better? fine, everyone likes what they like.

The kind of dog my neighbors have is none of my business. same as the kind of dog I choose to own is none of theirs. How they keep the dog & it's behavior, now that may impact me.

If they bragged about their so -called purebred dog, I'd call it on them and tell them "oh I see you bought a MUTT - its not a breed, its a mutt and you probably paid far too much for the mutt"....then walk away.
