My mom gets upset when I tell her to dress nicely?

Question

My mom designs her own clothes and she literally looks like a clown.
She wears shirts and cuts them up and makes weird design.
I tell her to wear proper clothes as we can afford clothes from the store.
She is brown and dyes her hair blonde. She looks ridiculous.

When I tell her that she would look better in brown hair she snaps at me and when she buys cloths from the store she starts crying saying I forced her to buy such clothes when in fact she picked them out on her own.

I am not soo rich so money is important to me. I do not mind buying her clothes if she wears them and is happy with them, however I get pissed off when I spend $100 and she is not satisfied.

I cannot return these clothes as they are final sale.

What should I do?

You just need to accept her for who she is and how she decides to look.

How would you like it if she made you wear clothing you did not feel comfortable in?

I suppose all you can do is gently make her see how she looks.  Begin taking pictures of her.  Collect the worst outfits in pictures.  Put them in a mini photo album and when you have company, put the album on the coffee table for everyone to see.  Perhaps if she hears it from someone else, she will finally listen and realize how she looks in her clown clothes and blonde hair.

The best thing you can do is to stop seeing her as an 'extension' of you, and to let her do her own thing with clothes.

Contrary to what you might think, people will not judge you on the basis of how your *mother* dresses.  If anyting, they will think *more* highly of you for dressing  more tastefully than your own mother dresses.  Leave her alone. 

By doing so, you may find she comes to dress more in the way you wish her to.  Right now, she is digging in her heels due to a 'power play.'  Once you *stop* caring how she dresses, you may find she tries harder to please you.

Mine too. I tell her anyway. 

Try to style her blonde hair and pair her clothes together in a way that is more flattering.

Otherwise, I'd let her be with the exception of special occasions and events. 

She is who she is. You can't change her. Try getting her a makeover. She may like it.
