Ok, embarrassing medical question time... (is this food poisoning or what?)?

I started college about a week ago and about 3 days into the semester I started having diarrhea. It actually hasn't stopped since then. I have been poopIng about five or six times a day for the past five days or so, pretty much after anytime I eat or drink. I don't have any other symtoms of anything and I have been eating a pretty balanced diet. I have tried pepto bismol a couple of times but that only works for a few hours. Is it normal for college food to do this or do I have some illness?

Food poisoning usually causes a lot of pain and often vomitting too. You might be sensitive to stress and a change in food. It might also be the water, drink bottled water for a while until you slowly get used to the new local tap water. get a brita filter too, in case.

the important thing is to stay well hydrated, because dehydration can easily occur with persstant diarrhea. mix some gaterade and bottled water to get your electrolytes which are necessary to stay hydrated. if you have signs of dehydration or it doesn't stop in a few days see a doctor.

It is possible that you had some sort of virus in your gut but more likely is this is due to stress and the sudden change of eating habits and food. This is not an embarrassing concern to post, everybody has to deal with it from time to time.

Allot of the time the virus may change our intestinal flora, so in an attempt to re-balance it you can try eating a serving of live culture (pro-biotic) style yogurt with each meal. The yogurt can help get you back to normal faster than without.

You may also want to try an anti-diahrreal (Kaopectate or similar) then gradually wean off of it.

    Good luck!

It's possible it's food related, especially if you have any food allergies or intollerances. Are the types of foods you're eating much different? Also, water could play a role, make sure the local tap water is safe

    Source(s): I've gotten sick from water... -_-
