why does UPS ship packages through Fedex.?

I work at Fedex Ground loading trailers and I always come across UPS packages. Why is UPS shipping stuff through FedEx is it some kind of like "keep your enemies closer" type thing where UPS tracks their own package of their biggest competitor to see if they are doing better than them or what? doubt anyone would know the real answer but I just thought I would get other peoples opinions.

I'd bet you have a lazy courier, who just grabs everything sitting on the shipping dock without looking.

May be UPS did not have enough volume for that route, so they combine their packages with Fedex to reduce shipping costs.
