Are Mormons Young Earth Creationists?

I read that Mormons think that dinosaur fossils were planted by Satan to fool us.

Is this true?

If we elect Romney, will we have a Young Earth Creationist in the White House?

No. We do not believe this.

Most Christians believe in young earth creationism. And most deny evolution. LDS have no 'official' doctrine on either however the consensus is as follows:

Question 1: how old is the earth?

    YEC: 6000 years old

    Scientist: approximately 13 billion years.

    LDS: *shrugs* ask the scientist

    Question 2: is evolution real.

    YEC: no.

Scientist: it's a theory that we believe.

LDS: it could very well be the method the creator used.

Question 3: can things be made from nothing?

YEC: yes god created everything out of nothing

Scientist: matter cannot be created nor destroyed only changed

LDS: god creates using existing matter

Question 4: does god go against the laws of physics?

YEC: yes. Laws of physics don't apply to god

Scientist: laws of physics are impossible to break

LDS: god most likely uses laws of physics as his tools. He also knows more about physics than scientists. God is a master scientist

    Question 5: did dinosaurs exist?

YEC: no. But if they did carbon dating is false. Dinosaur bones are the devil!

Scientist: yes. Carbon dating puts dinosaurs in prehistoric Triassic etc periods of the earth

LDS: yes. Refer scientist. Dinosaurs are obviously part of the creators plan.

    Question 6: do aliens exist?

    YEC/Christian: NOOOO! Devil Satan blasphemy!

Scientist: dunno. But we think most likely there is other life out there

LDS: there is no end to gods creations and there are definitely other planets populated by gods creatures.

Question 7: is the bible the only source of written history?

YEC/Christian: yes. The bible is the only truth. Everything else is wrong.

Scientist/historian: no. There are countless sources of historical records not all agreeing with the bible.

LDS: no. There are countless sources of historical records not all agreeing with the bible.

Question 8: is mainstream Christianity anything like Christianity at the time of Christ?

Christians: yes. Exactly like it. The bible is perfect and is a complete instruction booklet.

Historian: no. Dead sea scrolls, apocrypha, nag Hamadi library, and 100's of other sources prove it is quite different.

LDS: no. Much different. Present day revelation Dead sea scrolls, apocrypha, nag Hamadi library, and 100's of other sources prove it is quite different.

    Enjoy,

    Simon

The LDS church has no such doctrine and the Lord has not revealed specifics on the creation. Many high church leaders believe that the earth was created in 7 creative periods of unknown length. As a Mormon, I am convinced that the earth was created over billions of years using natural principles. I do not know to what extent evolution was involved.

There is a very wide range of beliefs among Mormons on evolution. It's one of many topics that their 'living prophets' don't bother to address, along with whether drinking herbal tea is evil, where the Book of Mormon took place, why they leave racist language in the scriptures, and why they felt the need to build a 5 billion dollar shopping mall in Salt Lake City.

The Mormon church doesn't have an official stance on young earth creationism or evolution, so members will likely have varying opinions.

In countries where the majority accept evolution, mormons tend to accept evolution

In the US, many mormons are YEC's

Mormons have a living prophet - a seer, prophet and revelator - who gfives the mormons direct knowledge on things whcih are important for them to know

for example, recent revelations have been that god abhors more than one set of ear piercings (1 in each ear is OK) and mormons should wear their magic underwear even while gardening.

something like the evolution of species is too frivolous and inconsequential for god to tell us about and he is willing for one set of mormons to believe in YEC and one set to accept evolution

According to Wikipedia, most Mormons interpret it that way...

"Evangelical Christians have continued to believe the literal claims of Genesis. Members of Protestant (70%), Mormon (76%) and Jehovah's Witnesses (90%) denominations are those most likely to reject the evolutionary interpretation of the origins of life.[107]"

I don't think Romney's weird religion influences most Christians as much as Obama being black.

It depends on how old the person is you're asking. Older generations are Old School, and are more likely to believe the Earth is no more than 7,000 years old. However, I've noticed the younger generation tend to believe it's millions of years old.

If you elect romney you will have a racist AND sexist president.

Do you want that? One of his councellors or whatever he is, said that rape is the fault of the woman.

And Mitt himself made a racial remark, that because Obama is black they;d need his birth certificate to know where he was born, and the fact he himself is white they don't need his.

Is this the man you want America?
