Moon space elevator?Why?
I recently saw a story on building a space elevator on the moon. I understand what a space elevator is, but what I can't understand is what benefit is there to building one on the moon. I read that the total from the project, fundraising not government money, is around $100,000.
I understand that it makes it easier to go to the moon and back, my problem is with why it's a problem. We can't send normal people down there til we build shelter for them. If we do, then we can populate the moon, and then it would serve a purpose.

There's a couple reasons, 1 is so that normal people like you and I can go to the moon, not just astronauts. Also maybe if we can start inhabiting the moon it will be easy to get there so earth won't be so crowded

LOL, $100,000? I think you have a typo there. You forgot a few dozen 0's. Anyway currently we don't have the carbon nano tube technology for a space elevator to work. And with the way a space elevator design works, due to the lower gravity, the "cable" for a space elevator on the Moon would actually have to be considerably longer than a space elevator on Earth. We'll be able to build one on Earth long before we can build one on the Moon.

In all theOry it sounds great but wouldn't if where the elevator attaches to earth and the moon it would have I be a fixed location,, my problem is that earth orbits the earth!! How in the heck would it stay in one place!!? And orbit change every few years by iniches so if they were planning on docking at a certain time wouldn't there have to be some sort of adjustment measurement taken in I place? To answer you question i don't think that will ever happen.

it,s cheaper and easier to get from orbit to the surface. if you,re bringing in or sending out goods, it drastically lowers the price of shipping.

It's safer than stairs that people might float away from.
