I need help with my cover letter and my grammar is terrible!?
This is the only place where I thought someone could help me out so I can send this tomorrow at lunch. Feel free to correct it willy nilly.
Thanks again!! ( The following is the letter.)
Someone showed me your advertisement for activities personnel Sunday evening and I was eager to learn more about it! I have heard numerous people mention what a wonderful place Home Sweet Home is for seniors, so when I heard this position was available I thought I would stop by as soon as I could. While I was filing out the application, I sat with some individuals on the various couches overlooking the Hudson. The view was so relaxing and we talked about the different boats on the river. What a pleasant experience it was!
For the last ten years I have worked with disabled seniors and have found it to be very rewarding helping them create a fulfilling life at our center. I worked with management and found opportunities to provide a computer with a large screen TV for our seniors group and tablets for their individual use. Many thought they would never learn how to and weuse modern technology and were pleased to learn they could navigate the internet ! With Google Earth we have been able to visit places where people grew up and discover many new places around the world. We have enjoyed reviving pleasant memories with technology. We can now watch favorite old TV shows that many thought they never would see again (“Chico and the Man”,”Matchgame” and “The $25000 pyramid” are a few of the surprises we were able to find on the web!).
With my background in the arts we have used pianos, bongos, guitars and other instruments that I have brought in to create entertaining music groups. Karaoke is also a favorite! We have participated in local art shows (we have a watercolor series coming up for the ArtsWalk in Hudson this year), and have begun practicing a form of Tai Chi that I studied at a seminar in Rochester. This course was specifically made for the elderly and disabled and the people I work with love practicing “Chi Time”..
Often we try to create a college atmosphere and study topics on a week long event. We have studied famous artists, the solar system, deep sea creatures and other themes the seniors have chosen themselves. We try to make most activities more active than passive experiences. Some examples are: using discussion groups after a movie or utilizing many types of bingo games ( food/money/animal bingos ) for a fun learning experience.
There are many different types of activities we have have done that I think are unique, and to cover them all would make for a very long cover letter!
Even though I do enjoy my position as counselor, lately my duties as staff trainer, assistant with transportation around the columbia-Greene area, CPR instructor and other staffing duties have distanced me doing what I do best; being a guide and a friend to elders.
If I could be in an environment where I can concentrate my abilities to help seniors have fulfilling lives, I know that my skills would be utilized to their fullest. Home Sweet Home and it’s friendly atmosphere is an opportunity I would like to learn more about!
I would like to discuss my background further with you at the opportunity of an interview. Please call me at 518 653 9816. I can usually be reached after 3:30. I can also be contacted at waltermahar@gmail.com.
Please consider me for volunteer work also, if you feel this position isn’t the perfect fit for me.

I've taken the liberty of correcting your grammar and changing certain sentences that didn't quite 'fit'. Really, your grammar isn't bad. You just need the letter to be more cohesive and flowing.
**Beginning**
I was referred by a colleague/friend of mine to your advertisement for activities personnel on Sunday evening and I was eager to learn more about it. I have heard numerous people mention what a wonderful place Home Sweet Home is for seniors, so when I discovered that there was a vacant position, I applied immediately. While I was filing an application for the position, I was sitting with some individuals on the couch overlooking the Hudson River. Among other things, we discussed the different boats that sailed past and how serene and relaxing the view was.
(I recommend that you omit the first paragraph)
For the past ten years, I have worked with disabled seniors, helping them create a fulfilling life for themselves at our centre [name of centre]. I have found it to be a very rewarding experience. During my time with management, we were able to donate a PC and large monitor and tablets for our seniors group for activities and individual use. Many of my colleagues thought they would never learn how to adjust to modern technology, but their optimism and persistence soon removed those thoughts; we were pleased to learn that they could navigate the internet with ease! Google Earth has enabled the seniors to visit places they people grew up and discover many new locations around the world. This has created many new relationships and given them a sense of closure. Furthermore, the seniors can now watch their favorite old TV shows many thought they would never see again online. This has illuminated the significance of technology and has provided other means of entertainment.
With my background in the arts, I have created entertaining music group sessions using various instruments such as the piano, bongos, guitars and other percussion instruments. Karaoke is also a favorite. We have participated in local art shows (we have a watercolor series coming up for the ArtsWalk in Hudson this year), and have begun practicing a form of Tai Chi that I studied at a seminar in Rochester. This course was specifically made for the elderly and disabled. The people I work with love practicing “Chi Time”.

Even though my primary position is as a counselor lately my duties have consisted of staff training, being an assistant with transportation around the Columbia-Greene area, CPR instructor and other staffing. These roles have allowed me to illustrate my helping nature and leadership with seniors.
