What is the exact difference between: Army, Marines, National Guard?

Update:

I've heard a lot about Navy SEALS being some of the toughest people out there...but then someone said teh Marines (or in your case Army Special Forces) are even tougher. Which is true?

Thanks for the help. I'm very uneducated in the military end of things. It all seems the same to some of us who don't know.

Everyone has a different job. Although recent operations have gotten us a little mixed up, the way it's supposed to be is this:

The Marine Corps is supposed to be an assault force in readiness. We have naval ships in every major body of water with Marines on board that are ready to respond to any crisis anywhere in the world. We are trained to assault an objective, neutralize any threats, and secure the objective.

That's where the Army comes in. Their job is to hold the objective and be an occupying force. They are trained on security and infantry tactics and given better equipment than Marines because they are supposed to be there for the long haul. They defend the objective and keep it safe.

The national guard is just what the name says; they guard the nation. If America was ever to be invaded the national guard would be the first to respond. They wear the same uniform and have some similar training as the Army but that's pretty much where the similarities end. They are funded by the state and not the federal government so their pay and benefits probably aren't as good as the other services but they don't have schedules that are as demanding as the others either. their job has gotten a little mixed also. They have been associated with helping with natural disasters in recent years which is a noble cause for sure but their original purpose was to defend the local government in case of attack.

  • What separates the Marines is their ability to be forward deployed at sea with all combat assets available (ground, logistics, air and special operations under one command). When you have a crisis and you need to respond but don't know how it'll turn out, you send the Marines. Their structure and mission is unique of all branches. Of course if it wasn't unique, it'll just be a second land Army and there will be no use for them.

When you have an obvious objective (ie to fight, conduct airborne raids, massive armor attacks), a long term conflict, occupation/peace keeping, you send in the Army. The National Guard is pretty much the same as the Army for the most part but serves the state. They can be federalized.

ok.. the national gaurd is apart of the army.. theres Active Army, Army Reserves, and Army National Gaurd.. Active army is when you have a duty staion and you work like a normal job usually from 6:30am(PT) untill 1700(COB)... as where national gaurd only reports one weekend of every month... same as reserves... however the national gaurd and reserves can be deployed easily and ive seen it alot.... national gaurd usualy help with natural disasters and stuff in our country and other countries, while active does more combat deployments... but national gaurd can be put into a combat deployment also...

the military nationwide look after is a reserve portion of the military yet no longer like the military save it has wrestle palms and it is going on state missions prefer to failures. yet in a reserve ingredient there is lively look after/Reserve and lively duty/particular artwork jobs the position you may artwork finished-time like a Recruiter or Counterdrug. The Marines is different from the military because they are extra like a short reaction stress and the military is a better occupying stress.

    - First of all the National Guard is state-funded so the pay is way less .

-The Marines is alot tougher & has more discipline then the others .

    - The Army has alot more jobs , benifits , post & they rank up the fastest .
