Output my laptop to direct tv box to my tv?

i have an older tv that only has composite, component, s-video, and dvi inputs. My laptop only outputs hdmi, dvi, and usb. Is there any way to connect my laptop to my direct tv box which both have hdmi ports then output the laptop audio/video to my tv? basically using the direct tv box as an adapter between my laptop and tv. any help would be great

No can do. The DirecTV has no inputs apart from satellite and network (and network is only certain media). USB is not a grapics/video output, but a system bus/port, and pretty low bandwidth as far as good graphics require. HDMI isn't a port like USB, but an A/V connection, and with that is an input or an output. Your computer and DirecTV box are outputs, your TV input.

You hook the computer directly to the TV with DVI, using a DVI or HDMI to DVI cable or adapter. To get audio you need to add a 3.5mm audio cable, to what your TV accepts for DVI audio in.

VGA to HDMI isn't possible. I do know you probably have a DVI port (which looks kinda much like VGA), that it may be converted to HDMI with an adapter, however seeing that VGA is not an HD output source, it are not able to be converted to an HD output, so this is not possible. Edit: apparently im wrong...

  • Good news for you. Look into Apple TV and Roku these two set top boxes can connect into your existing units its just a matter of program content that you prefer.

    Best.
