My dog has worms, what should I do?

Hi, my dog recently did his business, but this time he had worms in his stool... Since it's 12 am where I am from, I can't take him to the vet till tomorrow like around two when I come from school; So my question is what can I do so he could "sustain" himself till then? Another question I have is it going to be really pricy? Because he recently got really sick because of pravo, and we had to pay like 1000 dollars in bills...

He's a bolognese and about 6 months old.

Thanks!

You can buy an ALL womer from your vet probably without taking the dog in but you need to know what he weighs. Worming meds are based on the weight of the dog. There's nothing you can do until you get the medication.

Keep your dog on schedule with regular deworming and hopefully you have him on a monthly flea preventative. If not you need to get this from your vet as well. No it won't be expensive and treating to prevent any infestation is alway cheaper and easier than trying to eradicate an established infestation.

ADD: Sheesh! a couple of weird answers here. No vet would ever tell anyone to pull worms out of the dog's anus to cure a worm infestation. What utter nonsense.

Secondly we don't feed dogs wood to get rid of worms. We give them a deworming tablet.

If your dog is on heart worm preventative, it should have something in it to kill many kinds of worms. It sounds to me like you may not have him on that preventative.

Your dog probably has hook worm, which is quite common in dogs that go outside where other dogs go. They are a parasite and will eventually cause bloody stools because of the irritation of them hooked to the lining of the colon. You will have to take a fresh stool sample into the vet to be tested ($45?) and they will give you a couple of pills prescribed for her weight. One to be given immediately and the other to be given 2 weeks later. This should eliminate all the worms, but I would strongly suggest you have your dog tested for Heart Worm and put on the preventative. Heart worm is a horrible thing for a dog to go through and much be treated with strychnine. I won't hurt for you to wait a day or two to get the stool sample into the vet, but I wouldn't put it off much longer as they keep having larvae that will just multiply and take nutrients from the dog.

Your dog needs no treatment to sustain himself due to having intestinal worms. Just get him in to the vet as soon as you can. I'd pick up a bit of the poo & place in a ziploc bag that had worms in it to, take in as a sample. (Sometimes when they fish in your dog for fecal samples they don't always get worms.)

Is your dog on a monthly heart worm preventative like Interceptor or Heart-guard? If so, they take care of most intestinal worms, other than tapes. If you are using one of these products, they used to offer a guarantee if your dog was diagnosed w/ worms (other than tapes) & offer a rebate.

    No, de-worming isn't expensive. You've got office vist, fecal check/lab work & de-wormer; cost may be 100.-125.00

I can't find a article where it says female dogs get worms! It's always He! My dog is a female and is scratching her butt on the floor even outside. Do females get worms? I don't see the He/She gets worms articles. This is frustrating.

Crap...did NOT mean to Thumbs-up Taylor....Wood is not going to get rid of worms.

Simply take him to the vet when you can to get a deworming medication. Vets commonly do not/cannot prescribe medication without first seeing the dog, so you will have to bring in the dog. Bring in a FRESH sample of feces when you bring him in, as well.

A quite cheap and absolutely natural solution is using food grade diatomaceous earth for worming. I am using it all the time and it really works, it has to be food grade though, not the one you put in your pool filter (they add chemicals to it which would kill your dog).

WHen my dog had worms, the vet told us to use our dogs poop bag to pull out the worms when she's pooping... It might seem gross but it works! The worms will be gone a lot faster if you do that. When you go to the vet, I suspect they'll tell you to do the same thng and they'll probably give you some pills... Hope I helped! :)

if they are round worms look like sphagetti you can get dewormer from pet store if in doubt vet visit cause he is doesn't like them and they are spreadable to humans

I've been told give them wood to chew on. I did so with my pit/boxer pup and his worms were gone in a matter of days.
