Wanting to do something for a friend who lost her pet?

My best friend just lost her dog, a GSD she has owned for 9 years and that she brought home when he was 8 weeks old. He died 2 days ago suddenly after the vet weaned him off of his meds because they thought he was getting better.

She had him cremated but wasn't able to afford a nice urn so I was thinking maybe buying her a nice one but my husband mentioned that the urn might be sealed.

The problem is, she lives states away from me so I would have to be able to ship whatever I get for her via mail.

Any suggestions?

    I think I'd leave the urn idea alone. It may not be relevant in any case, unless she did have the ashes returned to her? I'd just send her a nice note, and perhaps some flowers. Losing a much-loved pet is very personal and we all deal with these losses in our own way. I think you just need to be there for her, listen if she calls, and offer support.

    What a nice thought. All my dogs are cremated however my husband did woodworking as a hobby and made all the boxes my dogs are in.

    Urns normally aren't sealed when picked up from the crematory, and even if they are they are easily opened.

    You can see some really nice ones here;

    You can also have them engraved for her.
