Atheists, let's just assume Christianity is right. Why is your disbelief in God based on world tragedies?

I use to ask questions like, "Why is there so much pain in this world?" I eventually got guided to the truth. It is all part of God's plan. The pain, the suffering everything. In Genesis it says that God created the Serpent (Symbolic for Satan) subtle in all its ways. This is further emphasized when he said in Isaiah 45:7 - I make peace and create disaster. I fully understand why all of this happens. Everything works for good. Your earth bound minds cannot understand the complexity of the Creator of the universe, but some of us are trying. God is good, and everything god does is for good. I lost two of my dogs, my closest animals companions in the most brutal and tragic ways, but alas everything worked out for the better. Just last week this innocent girl got murdered by this serial killer for no reason. I understand now that everything God does is for a purpose. This life on earth is a test for all of us. Everything was planned before the 'fall' of man. The devil was deliberately allowed to tempt Adam and Eve, because in the end God wanted man to be demi-Gods akin to himself, so this earth was created to torture us, and cause us as much pain as possible, then Jesus was sent to die for us, and he taught us to love this place which wants to kill us. Making it even more difficult to inherit the kingdom of God. The book of Job best illustrates this, and I have come to a greater understanding of God's love. We have to go through the fire before having eternal bliss. Life isn't for fun or pleasure. It's for suffering, and surviving. It's a constant test. We were created with bodies predisposed to lust, anger, murder etc, making it even more difficult for us to inherit the kingdom of God. That's why jesus talked about the wide and strait gate to hell.

Update:

Key word ASSUME. Let's just say that you believe in god... hypothetically speaking.

Update 2:

This is why I'm trying to love all the suffering I get, because I know it's allowed by God to strengthen me, and help me through life. That's why God told Job to,"Gird up his loins and be a man".

Update 3:

This question isn't about atheism per se. It's to address the human suffering question.

Update 4:

'Meowsus' - just for this year I could've been hacked to death by this thief, burned alive in this house, killed. Then comes a few other mental issues I've been plagued with, and a few supernatural problems (you don't believe.. yada yada).

you know what happens when you assume you make an *** out of you and me

like you did when you decided why I am an atheist..... of course like most theists here you haven't got a bloody clue

edit: okay so you admit it.... for you god is a crutch... it helps you cope with life. you self medicate with religion..... so what ? that's what religion is intended for ..... a crutch !

personally I don't need one. I just cope. you can't just cope. what's your point?

Because the claim is that God is "good". Good beings who can do anything they choose would keep folks from starving, babies from being raped or thrown onto a freeway by an angry spouse, etc. It is a no brainer. Either God doesn't exist....or he is powerless....or he is apathetic....or he is evil.

And doesn't the "test" seem awfully cruel for the victims of the humans being tested?

What is this "suffering" you are enduring? Unless you have been to Abu Ghraib or kept in a torture chamber by a serial killer and barely escaped....your suffering is probably very minimal.

" let's count on such God is the God described by using the Christian bible" Why? Why now not only a god, why cant it's any quantity or different gods? You realize what assuming does proper? To answer your query, i'd don't forget the Christian god a tyrant.

If God were actually benevolent, and actually had the power to change ALL the rules, then he could have created a universe with rules by which the greatest good does NOT require any evil to happen at all.

Clearly, that is not the sort of universe we live in. Therefore, our universe is not one created by a benevolent, all-powerful deity. No amount of theological gibberish can nullify this simple fact.

  • My disbelief in God has nothing to do with tragedies or suffering. It is the total lack of any evidence FOR a God. If a God existed, there is no logical reason why a God could not be petty, vindictive, uncaring, or even evil.

It is lack of evidence that tell me there is no God, not the evil or tragedy in the world.

Dont be stupid all your life

Lets start by assuming christainaity is wrong, then ask the same question again

If the question aint about atheism per se then what difference does it make and why did you ask the question of atheists?

Now YOU might be interested in rambling on about what you believe but frankly I could not give a f///k

And the answer is - it aint

That's kind of a whacky premise: My disbelief in god isn't based on world tragedies. Further, I understand from the Christian perspective why tragedies happen, because free will is a central part of your belief system. Everyone is free to do what they will, whether it be loving Jesus or being responsible for starving children.

My disbelief in god is predicated on lack of evidence.

In fairness toward atheists, I have a very good idea why they blame God for suffering. I, myself, used to feel this way until I actually grasped the larger picture. Firstly, we need to understand that the God of Christianity is not some genie who pops around when we rub a lamp. Secondly, we need to recognize the suffering that we ourselves, as humans and not as advocates of an ideology, cause to others. Thirdly, if God is truly just, He must send rain on those who He sees as good as well as those who He considers to be wicked. He is very staunchly pro-life, in the sense that everywhere you look there are billions of people who hate Him and live long, prosperous lives. We as humans have no alibi for human suffering. We are not a self-made creation that masters our universe. Many of us are lucky that we can walk and chew gum at the same time. But, this is our choice, too. Many seek wisdom and knowledge. They hope that God will find them to be as fair and righteous as possible. This is why they do good works. Salvation is a gift by grace through faith. If we are unwilling to comprehend Him, how will we ever know Him?

    But...I don't ASSUME anything.

And even if I did ASSUME there was a "god" of some kind, it couldn't be the "christian" one. Much of the bible is clearly shown false by more than ample evidence; the promises and claims and statements of the "god" in it are self-contradictory, and in many cases also proven false by evidence.

So even if I were to assume a "god" exists, I couldn't assume it was the christian one -- evidence clearly shows that one does not, in fact, exist.

    But, like I said, I don't assume anything...'cause that's rather silly.

    Peace.

My lack of belief in the existence of god is based purely on the lack of evidence to support the existence of a god.

But as it happens, I think the evidence for a moral god is even less substantial.

So... God makes bad things happen because he's God and everything has a purpose? Our entire lives are just a test? I can't live for me, it's always all about God?

Cool. I'm still not worshiping that guy.
