Carrying a firearm, can I be stopped and asked to present my actualy permit?
I am a CCW permit holder, I carry about 90% of the time when leaving the house, in the winter time I carry concealed (Shoulder holster under my jacket) in the summer time I usually carry on my hip. If a Police officer stops me and demands my permit, do I have to present it to him? Hypothetically speaking, of course. I have no issues showing my permit to a police officer, just curious about the ramifications of refusal. I feel, personally, that it is easier to just go with the flow and hide nothing from Law Enforcement, but that feeling only extends so far. Making the officer feel as if I am not a threat is one thing, infringement on my right to privacy is another.
As a side note, I have been pulled over by an officer before while driving and the easiest way to handle those kind of stops is to place your hands on the window of the car until you tell the officer that you are carrying, and find out what he wants you to do from there. This has happened to me twice, the first time it was a non issue with the officer, he had me exit the car, remove the gun from my holster, unload it and set it back on the drivers seat, then he checked my information (Carry permit, etc). The second time was at a roadblock, not sure if she was a rookie or still in training, but I was scared during that encounter. The way she was acting you could tell she was edgy and slightly nervous. Anyways, the side note was a pointless aside, the only question is with the first part.
Reply to Sayagain. I understand the lose your permit if you don't have the card on you, I always have the card on me. In Georgia, they don't require a class to carry. So any numbskull (like me) can just go to the courthouse, pay $75.00 and after a background check, have a permit in the mail. Thank you for your answer to my question though.

In Texas, you must tell the officer you have a CHL and are carrying a weapon, before he asks, if he goes back to his patrol car and finds out you have a permit and did not tell him first, you are in deep trouble.
When I have been stopped the first thing I say is I have a CHL and my gun is in this location on my body or in the car. The officers have only said, do not go to where the gun is located, and nothing happened.
The police do not fear the person with a permit they fear the criminals who have guns illegally.

Yes you do have to present it to any law enforcement official that asked for it which i am sure you were taught during the CCW class.. Its the law. You can lose your CCW if caught carrying with out it.

In EVERY state that has CCW's, you are required to show your CCW card when requested by a police officer.
In some states, if you are stopped on a traffic violation, you MUST show your CCW card and tell the officer if you are carrying.
So, yes... you are required to show if asked by an officer.
