Is it normal for a dog to pant a lot?
I have a male pit bull 2yrs old and he weights 80lb. We go to the park and he jumps a lot, when we com e back home he will not stop panting for about an hour, even after we gave him some water. Is there something wrong with him? Is it normal to pant that much? Is my dog overweight? Thanks a lot guys
BTW We live in Texas so I dont know if the heat makes him pant too much

Dogs can't sweat, so they release body heat by panting. If he pants a lot, that means he's really hot (so yes, being in Texas affects that). It's not a big deal so long as you're giving him lots of water, but if it bothers you sit him in front of the AC or something, or wash him down with some cool water to help him cool down.

My 9 month old pomeranian/papillon ALWAYS pants, not just because she's hot though. Dogs pant to keep themselves cool, which means your pit bull is very hot. Sometimes they pant lightly (i honestly don't know why, but my dog does that, so if it's light panting its normal. if it's heavy then he's too hot) Give him lots of water and put on a fan or the AC.
He shouldn't be overweight. Unless the dog is visibley chubby, he should be fine.. If you're really concerned about it, take him to the vet and ask. If the vet says he is, he'll say to cut his food by 1/3. but he should be fine.

I think that other answer pretty much covers it but a little more :P
So you should have water at the park for him and if its really hot throw some water on him. Its normal for dogs to pant be careful if this keeps happening you should ask a vet

Ya it's normal, it's just a dogs way of sweating. Plus it's really hot in Texas so he's going to pant a lot.

. wait till it cools down.. if he doesnt, feel his heart beating, and if its pounding really fast, then bring him to a vet as soon as you can
