Recording amp question?
I got a really nice AKG Precision 220 large diaphram condenser mic. It works great for vocals and acoustic but I'm having a lot of trouble getting as good of sound when recording my tube amp. Would it be better to get the Shure SM57? Or use them both? Or is there just something I'm not getting here? Thanks
Yeah I have a USB Interface and Pro Tools. I want to record my amp because it actually sounds good, as opposed to the digital copies of amps in Pro Tools, which sound like digital copies of amps in Pro Tools. I have a Fender Tube Amp with #10 Hardness Russian Tubes and stuff in them. I'm trying to record it with a microphone the way everyone has ever done it ever that has sounded good. Ever.

Unless your trying to record exclusively through your mic I'm not sure where your amp comes into the picture. unless of course you've patched into the mic jack of your computer then yes there's something you ain't getting, as in with today's modern technology the price of a usb interface is dirt cheap, most will also come with some type recording software, I'm not a pro by any means but I did my research before purchasing, although moneys not an issue I opted for shall we say inexpensive, I found the Avid M-Audio Mobile Pre to be the best bang for the buck, comes with a rudimentary version of Pro Tools recording software, phantom power for the mic, 2 channels. in case you want to record 2 instruments at the same time and for $150 bucks I found it much easier than banging my head against the wall trying to patch through my computers mic jack and deal with some crappy free online recording down load.
