Was it to soon for me to test am I pregnant?

I had a miscarriage on the 16 of las month August. I only bleed for 5 days like if i was on my period. After that my husband and i had unprotected sex on the 23, 24 & 26. I still haven't started my period. This past Friday i had horrible cramps they were so bad that i had to lay down and put something warm on my lower belly. Getting up and walking caused me even more pain that i had to take in huge breaths to try to bring the pain down. I for sure thought that i was going to start my period but nothing. Ever since Friday the cramping has not been so bad. i took a pregnancy test yesterday which came back negative. Was it too soon for me to test? Could i be pregnant? Should I wait a couple of more days to see if i start my period or should i test again again some other day. I will really appreciate all of ur answers God Bless.
