Can someone give a list of ancient(before the Renaissance) strung instruments, that have a body?
I need to do a report on one, but google does not give me anything to really go off of to find a instrument that fits the criteria above.

Cittern or Zither (older than the lute or mandolin)
Harp, both medieval triangular harp and African/Oriental bowed/angled harps.

The Gusli are an awesome instrument, and have a large history behind them. Might also consider the Indian Santoor. Might find more in the link below.

Oh, and yeah, the Lute. I'm an idiot for forgetting that. Many Greek legends associated with it.

I would suggest Gusli, since it's a very ancient instrument from my country, Russia.
