My car jerks while accelerating?
This problem just started the other day (just got it a couple weeks ago). I stopped at an intersection, and when I accelerated the car jerked rapidly (it kind of felt like driving over a washboard); it only lasted a couple seconds but was very noticeable. I think it might be a sticking brake since it only happens when accelerating from a stop, and it only happens some times at random.
I have a 1998 Olds 88.
What could be the problem, or how can I check and fix it before going to a mechanic?

Don't go to a dealer for a diagnostics because you'll have to pay. Go to Autozone or AdvanceAutoParts for the diagnostics. 8/10 it's the spark plugs or transmission fluid. Give it a tune-up, replace plugs, wires, filters, oil-change, & cap-off all fluids.

This could be caused by many problems.
Your accelerator pedal sends signals to the
fuel injection systems via computer.
The injection system might need cleaning.
The emission control system also could play a part (blow-back pressure)
The fuel system is so complex, I would suggest
taking it to a dealer and have them plug your car
into the diagnostic machine.
If this problem started with your last gas fill-up,
use up the present fuel, then fill-up with gas that
has the lowest amount of ethanol.
Use Premium Regular or Premium gas.
If this has been an on-going problem for a while,
I would take it to a GM dealer.
If you drive mainly around town at low speeds,
take your car for a 15 mile highway spin at higher speeds.
You can most likely rule-out the brakes.

Just go and have your car checked at your earliest. You don't have many options. It is not critical thou

Have an auto parts store put a tester on it. They usually do it for free.

sounds like you have a misfire go to auto place and have them hook a computer to it and see if you need new spark plugs
