The grocery store or Walmart. If you tell them you want some boxes, they will tell you the best time of day to come pick them up.
Banana boxes are good and sturdy and they have lids, boxes that bleach or laundry detergent come in are good.
Liquor stores also have lots of boxes. You can pick them up pretty much any time of the day.
Tip - plastic grocery store bags or Walmart bags make really good packing material instead of newspaper.

I have moved a lot and you may spend a lot of time hunting for free boxes. They sell new ones at Home Depot for as low as $1 each. I have bought bundles of boxes from an online packaging place and been very happy to have good sturdy boxes for my valuables.
